William McEvoy of Dublin, a cooper, moved to Chicago, with his wife, Margaret Reilly McEvoy, and five of their children
They travelled from Dublin on the ship Fingal and arrived in New York 7 November 1848.Their children who travelled with them were
William (16, a printer), Peter (14, a cooper), (Mary)Jane (7), and Margaret and John (who were both infants).
In Chicago, they later lived at 646 West Lake Street, where William had a cooperage and they also ran a boarding house, which had about 15 boarders in 1870.1850 - 26 September -4th Ward, Chicago 1770/1791 (The surname looks to be written McFrey or McFroy)

1870 - 11 June - 14th Ward, Chicago surname written McAvoy; own a home listed as a boarding house; daughter Margaret listed as Margaret Mullen - lives with John Mullen (a carpenter) at her parents' boarding house
1902 - John A. McEvoy d. 12/07/1902; obit. 12/09/1902; wife Johanna Powell
