Ira Hall's Will
Written July 8, 1874; Probated May 15, 1879

Hounsfield, Jefferson County, NY: Book 19, p. 407

I Ira Hall of Hounsfield in the County of Jefferson New York aged seventy-three years and upwards of sound mind and disposing memory do make constitute and ordain publish and declare this my last will in manner following that is to say:

First- I order and direct- my Executor hereinafter named to pay all my just and legal debts as soon after my decease as may be and give me good respectable Christian burial.

Second- I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife in heir and instead of Dower in my real estate and d---? share in my personal estate for and during her life the one third part of my real estate and the one third part of my personal estate forever.

Third- I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved grand daughter Jennie M. Hall the sum of three hundred dollars to be paid her by my said Executor when she shall arrive at the age of twenty one years or at the time of her marriage if she --? marriage before she shall arrive at the age of twenty one years.

Fourth- I give devise and bequeath unto my children Joel Hall, Ira Hall, Edwin W. Hall, Sophia A. Hall, Samuel Hall, Ella Ingraham, Winfield S. Hall all the rest residue and remainder of my estate real and personal wheresoever the same may be to be had and enjoyed by them share and share alike, and to their heirs and assigns forever.

Fifth- I give and bequeath to my beloved wife the household furniture I may have at my decease anything in their? four of this my will to the contrary notwithstanding.

Sixth- I nominate constitute and appoint my trusty friend Orville W. Baker Executor of this my last will and testament -hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made giving to my said Executor full power to contract sell and convey any and all real estate I may have at my decease if it shall become necessary in the settlement of my estate and fulfillment of the --? contained in this will.

For witness whereof I have hereto set my name and affixed my seal at the city of Watertown this 8th day of July 1874.

Probate

The probate documents for the will, in 1879, mention the following heirs: Children - Ella Ingraham of Black River, Joel Hall of Watertown, Samuel Hall and Winfield S. Hall of Hounsfield, Ira Hall Jr. of Mexico, Missouri, and Edwin W. Hall of Cazenovia, New York; Jennie M. Hall of Hounsfield, only child of Hiram Hall a deceased son of "testator", a minor over 14 years of age having no formal guardian; and Mandana Hall of Hounsfield, widow of "testator". Charles H. Walls, Esq., was appointed by the court as "special Guardian" of Jennie M. Hall for the sole purpose of representing her interests in this case. No one contested the will.
