"We are always coming up with the emphatic facts of
history in our private experience and verifying them here. All history becomes
subjective; in other words, there is properly no history; only biography." "Posterity who are to reap the blessings will scarcely be able to conceive the hardships and sufferings of their ancestors." My name is Miriam Robbins Midkiff, and I have been interested in genealogy since I was a child. I grew up 3,000 miles away from my extended family, so I relished the family stories and photographs my parents shared with me. Because visits to and from relatives were few and far between, they made quite an impact on me; and again, any stories I heard from them were tucked away in my memories. This, combined with a natural love for history, grew into my lifelong love of genealogy. A few years ago, I coined the term "AnceStories" while playing around with the idea of creating a website of the stories of my ancestors. These were created from a blend of my genealogical research, memories (my own or relatives') and sometimes autobiographical accounts written by my ancestors. These pages often contain vintage photos of their subjects. Occasionally there are photos of objects from the person's life and even death, such as a headstone. I hope this site is informational and interesting. It has brought me so much joy to create it, as it combines my talents of research, writing and webpage design. Thank you for your patience as I build this site - a lot of it is still under construction! Please contact me with any questions or comments you may have. Here is an essay about why genealogy is important to me. I've won another website award! This one was an "Excellent Site Award" given by Sue Ann from the Kentucky is My Home! site. I'm proud to announce my first website award (below), given to me by Sherry from the Texas History Hunter site! In order to qualify, a website must have at least twenty percent of their site in ancestral photos. I no longer offer a mailing list for my website. Instead, I will keep my viewers informed of website changes through my AnceStories blog. You can also visit my journaling prompt blog, AnceStories2: (Stories of Me for My Descendants).
