MABEL CANFIELD



1896 - 1988

MABEL CANFIELD, daughter of John Mark Canfield and Missouri Frances "Fannie" Jones, was born in New Lancaster, Miami County, Kansas, on January 6, 1896, and died on March 13, 1988 in Ottawa, Kansas. Mabel Canfield married Frank Albert Pflug who was born August 23, 1895, and died of Alzheimer's Disease in an Ottawa, Kansas nursing home on April 11, 1983. Mabel Canfield's and Frank Albert Pflug's marriage took place on October 17, 1920.

Children of Mabel Canfield and Frank Albert Pflug:

1. Eleanor Frances Pflug, who married Robert Rundus.

2. Margaret Ann Pflug, who married William Crooks Fleming.

Mabel grew up on a farm in Miami County, Kansas, and graduated from high school in Wellsville, Kansas. She taught in a rural elementary school in Miami County for one year. Mabel then taught in Wycoff School in Franklin County, Kansas for one year plus a few months, at which time she resigned to care for her mother who was in the last stages of cancer.

Following her mother's death, she and her father, John Mark Canfield, made a train trip to Houston, Texas, to visit Canfield relatives including her father's mother, Eleanor Johnson Canfield, as well as uncles and aunts. In 1920, Mabel and Frank Pflug were married and lived on a farm near Wellsville, Miami County, Kansas. They moved to Ottawa, Kansas, in the summer of 1943. After Frank died, Mabel lived in her home until September, 1987, when she moved into a nursing home in Ottawa.

Frank Albert Pflug was born on August 23, 1895 in Miami County, Kansas. He died on April 11, 1983, in Ottawa, Kansas of Alzheimer's Disease. He was buried in Wellsville, Kansas. Frank Pflug and Mabel Canfield P{flug lived and farmed the Pflug Farm southeast of Wellsville, Kansas, in the Perssonville area from 1920 until 1943. They moved to Ottawa, Kansas, Frank continuing to farm the land, driving from Ottawa until the farm sold in 1957.
