Marjorie Rea died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005 in Oklahoma City at the age of 94.
She was born Dec. 20, 1910 in DeQueen, Ark. to William Bennett White and Mary Ann Olmstead White and grew up in small towns in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas, including DeQueen, Greenwood and Fort Smith, Ark.; and Hugo, Spiro, Heavener and Muskogee (Okla.).
Rea graduated from Muskogee High School in 1928 and from Droughn Business College in Muskogee. She then attended Bethany Nazarene College.
After marrying Berry F. Rea in 1934, they moved to Sapulpa where they lived for 41 years and reared their family. They moved to Tulsa in 1975 and later to Oklahoma City to be near family members.
Rea was preceded in death by her beloved husband Berry in 1988.
She is survived by her two children Patricia Ann Gamble, of Oklahoma City, and Ronald Berry Rea and wife Loreta, of Houston, Texas; her grandchildren James Arthur Gamble and wife Laura, of Oklahoma City; Ferrell Rea Gamble, of Nashville, Tenn.; Pam and Greg Rea, of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren Jackson Gamble, of Oklahoma City; Christianna Gamble, of Nashville, Tenn.; Allison Rea, of Houston, Texas; sister Eugenia Sadler; and many nieces and nephews in Muskogee and Grand Prairie, Texas.
Rea was the Creek County Extension Clerk for several years prior to relocating to Tulsa. She also worked in the Admissions Department at Bethany Nazarene College and for the Boy Scouts in Muskogee prior to her marriage.
She was a member of the Methodist Church for over 75 years and very active as a Sunday School Teacher and in supporting missions and evangelistic activities. She was a member of the Eastern Star Masonic organization for many years. Her professional activities included serving as a member and officer of the Business and Professional Women's Organization.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the charity of your choice.
