SAPULPA -- Ronald E. Foshee, Sr., a Sapulpa City Council member, died Monday. He was 70.
A service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church under the direction of House of Winn Funeral Home in Okmulgee.
He was born March 1, 1933 in Sapulpa to Perry and Beaury Foshee.
He served two tours of duty in the Army before becoming a Garfield Elementary School teacher. He later taught at Cherokee Elementary School in Tulsa.
A retired insurance salesman, Foshee was elected to a four-year term on the City Council in 1998. He was reelected in 2002.
"He was a fantastic councilman and gentleman," said City Manager Tom DeArman. Foshee promoted the city parks and streets, he said.
Foshee was also a member of the Mason Fidelity Lodge, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, VFW and Snowden Chapel CME Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Foshee; a son, Ronald E. Foshee Jr. of Tulsa; two daughters, Selia Lewis of Sapulpa and Ecora Hampton of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, Rudolph Foshee of McAlester; and five grandchildren.
