OAKHURST -- The deaths of an Oakhurst couple are believed to have been a murder suicide that capped an argument between a husband and wife.
Tulsa County Sheriff deputies said it appeared that Edward Gayton, 27, shot his wife, Dellia Gayton, 22, several times before he ended his life with a single gunshot wound to the head.
Deputies said their three children, ages 6, 5 and 2 months, apparently witnessed the shooting.
Deputies said a relative had gone to the house after being asked by Edward Gayton to pick up the children.
The relative told deputies that both older children were on the porch and crying when she arrived.
The unidentified woman said the infant was sitting next to his death mother.
Deputies said the three children were taken into custody by the state Department of Human Services.
Authorities logged a 911 call from the relative about 6:37 a.m. saying she had found her brother and sister-in-law suffering from gunshot wounds.
The woman told investigators her brother had called her about 6:30 a.m. and told her to come to his house to pick up the children. She arrived within minutes, and by the time she arrived, they were already dead, deputies said.
The children were not phyisically injured and were taken to the sheriff's office for interviews with a deputy who could speak Spanish.
