Longtime Keystone Lake resident and businessman Maurice Hivner was honored Sunday at DJ's Club with a dinner and entertainment. Maurice is better known in this area as "Bing."
Bing and his wife Elanor, established Bing's Place in 1951 and it shortly became a legendary landmark, a place to meet friends and enjoy a steak dinner or hamburger.
But, the main attraction was always Bing himself - with his good sense of humor, his down-home philosophy and his ability to spin a good yarn. This always made his customers feel right at home.
Bing stated that he always had "good friends and good enemies and I would like to keep it that way," as he surveyed the crowd of friends that had gathered at DJ's.
When asked just how he got the name of Bing as a nickname, Maurice, laughing, said that "his Mother's maiden name was Crosby." I then had to draw my own conclusion.
Joe and Delores Hollingshead, owners of DJ's Club, were honored to be part of this tribute to Bing and were so pleased for this grand old time. And a grand time it was. Good food, good friends and live music, provided by Charlie Choate and his Good Time band.
Bing is an active member of the VFW Post 7441 of Mannford and many of his friends from the Post were in attendance for this tribute.
Bing's Place closed in 1976, but Bing never closed out his friends. Best wishes Bing and Elanor Hivner.
