Mr. and Mrs. Jim Vickers came to Creek County in the 1890's. They lived in Kansas then lots of people wanted to go west to greener pastures. They heard money grows on trees down in Oklahoma. So they came here and found cotton. Ha, you had to have a long heavy sack. They were white and heavy like overhalls. A wide strap so you could pull it down the rows. I had to work hard to pick 100 lbs. a day. My sister could get 200 lbs. The McRath boy could pick 300 or 400. Now some people plant a stalk in their yard. Mr. and Mrs. Green have some in their garden for their 8 grandchildren. They think it is fun! Ha!
