"Momma! Tell us a 'HICKS KIDS' story!" "Momma, tell us about the time you spent the night with Eva May!" "Oh, Momma, tell us again about eating dinner with them!" And on and on and on.
During the late 1910s and early 1920s, the Parsons Family lived either next door to, or just a couple of houses from, the Hicks Family. They were definitely close enough in proximity to spend most days living in one another's houses. All of this took place in Houston, Texas, and the Parsons children and the Hicks children all went to South Heights Schools there.
We know there WAS a Mother and a Father who raised "The Hicks Kids," but those parental figures were not usually the focus of our interest. It was the Kids, themselves . . . one named "Eva May" and another named "Hootsie." There were others too, but it seems those two names stuck in our minds most clearly. Eva May because she was closest to our Momma's age and therefore they were thrown together for more mischief most often, and "Hootsie" for a very obvious reason . . . her name!
We have no idea what might have happened to this family, where they came from or where their descendants might be now. I wish we did. They brought so many hours of joy and fun into our lives! We loved them all, and never knew a one of them!
Thanks, Hicks Kids! We wish you belonged to US!
