THE ROUSSEAU FAMILY

The Rousseau Family

Left To Right, Back Row: Augustine Van Dyke "Tenny" Rousseau, Louis C. Rousseau (Father), Irvin C. Rousseau, Samuel Ernest Canfield (Husband of Clara Z.); Left To Right, Front Row: Mae Azalia Rousseau, Clara Rousseau (Mother) holding Maurice Harmon Canfield, Clara Zenor Rousseau-Canfield

Our connection with the Louis C. Rousseau, Sr. family is through Samuel Ernest Canfield. He married Clara Zenor Rousseau, daughter of Louis C., Sr. and Claricy E. Zenor, on December 18th, 1901. Of that union was born one son, Maurice Harmon Canfield, on February 3, 1905.

The Rousseau Family was said to have descended from French royalty. They came to America and settled in the Chicago, Illinois, area. There they were in various retail ventures for many years.

In 1898, the Rousseau family moved to Aldine, Harris County, Texas. They bought a home and land to farm, and lived out the remainder of their days, raising their children who married and had families of their own.

This family has been very influential to our lineage because of the many photographs and memories that have been shared with us. Maurice, who married his first cousin and our grandmother, Pearl Margaret Van Horn-Parsons, was eager to talk about his family and to share their adventures and escapades as he recalled them.

We would like to present what we have accumulated, thanks to Great-Uncle-Step-Grandpa-Maurice, with you in hopes that you can connect to this family yourself. If you can, you have a very fine group of people to call your own!
