As I was telling my mother about her new great grandson, I noticed that she did not respond to me. On closer examination, I determined that she was dead and a medical examination confirmed it. She died in the same hour that the baby was born. She left 9 children, 21 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, so she will be remembered by many people. Even though she professed the Christian faith for many years, she asked to be buried as a Jew several months before she died. I complied with her wishes and gave her a Jewish burial. Rather than get a rabbi to perform the religious ritual, I did it myself considering my obligation and my privilege..."1,10
