- Elias married Marinda Hale, daughter of David Hale and Sarah Kingsbury, on March 24, 1829 in Turner, Androscoggin County, Maine.3
- The census of 1850 shows: Elias Whiting, 49, a farmer with $3500 real estate; and Marinda H. Whiting, 53; listed with S. Kingsbury Whiting, E. Payson Whiting and Nancy B. Whiting
living at Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine.
Also living there was David T. Whiting, 24, a farmer with $1000 real estate; and Silas Greenleaf, 14, attending school.
In 1850, Elias had 125 acres improved, and 50 acres unimproved, with $2500 corn, $175 farm implements, $497 livestock (3 horses, 5 milch cows, 4 oxen, 4 other cattle, 1 pig). He produced 11 bushels of rye, 60 bushels of Indian corn, 110 bushels of oats, 11 bushels of peas and beans, 200 bushels of Irish potatoes. He had orchard products worth $40, $20 of market gardens, produced 330 lbs of butter, 486 lbs of cheese, 50 tons of hay. Value of animals slaughtered was $75.4
- In Oct 1851, Elias was plaintiff in a debt case before the Kennebec County Supreme Judicial Court.5
- The census of 1860 shows: Elias Whiting, 59, a farmer with $3000 real estate and $1500 personal estate; and Marinda H. Whiting, 63; listed with Edward Payson Whiting
living at Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine.
Also living in the house were Katherine Turner, 59, and John W. Jones, a farm laborer.
In 1860, he had 100 acres of improved land, 50 unimproved. Cash value of farm: $3000. Value of farming implements: $ 500. He had one horse, four milch cows, four working oxen, one other cattle, one pig. Value of livestock: $410. He produced 60 acres of Indian corn, three bushels of peas and beans, 40 bushels of Irish potatoes, 100 bushels of barley, 250 pounds of butter, 150 pounds of cheese, and 30 tons of hay.6 - Elias died on September 5, 1868 at age 68.7
