On 11 September 2010, the National Orphan Train Complex Museum & Research Center (NOTC) will hold its annual celebration in Concordia, KS. Honored guest will be Mary Ellen Johnson, the founder of the Orphan Train Heritage Society of America. Persons attending the event will enjoy seeing new exhibits, hearing riders’ stories, and participating in the official opening of the Mary Ellen Johnson Room. Marie Benson (e-mail: [email protected]) is looking for information on the BENSON ancestry of William BENSON of Frenchburg, KY. He was born in 1882 and died in 1937. His sister, Myrtle BENSON, was born in 1888 and died in 1975. Their mother’s name was Louise. Some people think she was Gypsy. She was born a BENSON in Bath County in 1853 to Nancy BENSON.

The material below concerns individuals, some of whom were Native American, employed in the Indian school service by the Kiowa Agency in Oklahoma on 30 June 1894. The data may be found on page 528 of the ANNUAL REPORT OF THE COMMISSIONER OF INDIAN AFFAIRS, 1894 (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1895). Details usually include the individual's name, position, salary, sex, "color" (sic) (White, Indian, or “Negro”), and date of "present" appointment.
