     This week we present more information from a Shelby County, Texas, newspaper. The data appear in the 30 April 1936 issue of the Center Daily News, published in Center, Texas. (Surnames are capitalized for emphasis. Some punctuation may be changed for clarity.)

     The following items, some of which mention people from the neighboring town of Nacogdoches, appear in a column from the community of Campti.

     “Mr. and Mrs. C. E. COLLIER of Nacogdoches visited Mr. and Mrs. B. N. SIMS Friday.

     Mrs. C. B. OWENS and daughter, Maxine, spent the past weekend in Bronson with their relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Sam HENNIGAN and family.”
     (Editor’s note: Bronson is located in neighboring Sabine County.)

     “Mrs. J. H. GEORGE’s father, Mr. OWENS of Nacogdoches, has been visiting her for the last several days.

     Several people from this community attended the funeral of Mrs. Calvin HUGHES at Sardis last Wednesday.”
     (Editor’s note: Sardis is another community in Shelby County.)

     “We are glad to report that Alfred BROADWAY, who has been ill for several days, has greatly improved.

     Mr. and Mrs. GORDON of Center were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. George LYNCH Sunday.

     Little Joan O’REAR and Mrs. Bob DUNCAN are on the sick list.

     Misses Edna Fay and Marie DAW entertained a group of friends including Misses Laverne DUNCAN, Maxine PERMENTER, and Jessie SAMPLES last weekend.

     Mr. and Mrs. Chester HOLT of Excelsior were visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. PERMENTER and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie BAILEY last weekend.”
     (Editor’s note: Excelsior is also a community in Shelby County.)


     These items appear in a column about the community of Liberty.

     “Rev. Aaron GANN filled his regular appointment at New Harmony Saturday night and Sunday.”
     (Editor’s New: New Harmony is another community in Shelby County.)

     “Mr. and Mrs. Jewell GOINGS and children of Center spent Sunday with Mrs. Goings’ parents, Rev. and Mrs. W. T. BAKER.

     Mrs. Uletha STRONG was the weekend guest of her daughter, Mrs. Duke ALLUMS.

     Mr. and Mrs. Preston WEEKS and son, Freddy, with Mrs. C. B. BOGARD of Enterprise were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. WEEKS last Friday.”
     (Editor’s note: Enterprise is in Van Zandt County, Texas.)

     “A large number met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter WILBURN Saturday night and had a fine singing.

     Rev. Aaron GANN spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin BOLES.

     Ernest WILBURN and Vessie GREEN of the CCC camp at Patroon spent the weekend at home.”
     (Editor’s note: Set up under the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt for unemployed single men, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a voluntary public work relief program. In the community of Patroon, it only lasted a few years before its removal elsewhere.)

     “Mr. and Mrs. Jim METCALF and family [and] Mr. and Mrs. Henry CUMMINGS and family went fishing last week and reported a very fine time and plenty of fish.

     Richard PERMINTER (sic) spent Sunday night with Emmett BAILEY.

     Mr. and Mrs. Earl PAYNE are the proud possessors of a fine new radio, which their friends also are enjoying.

     Little Terrell TYLER is on the sick list.

     Monroe BRITTAIN of McClelland is spending a few days with Clyde MONROE.”
