     Since Genealogical Publishing Co. has put several CDs on sale until December 31, 2006, researchers may want to take advantage of the lower prices even after Christmas. If you order before that date, you can save $10 on each CD. Among those offered are IMMIGRANTS TO THE NEW WORLD, 1600s - 1800s and MARYLAND GENEALOGIES AND MARRIAGES, 1634 - 1820.

     The first CD contains images of pages from five books pertaining to immigrants who arrived in America prior to 1900. The reference works, several of which were compiled by noted author Michael Tepper, are

1) NEW WORLD IMMIGRANTS, VOLUMES I and II;
2) EMIGRANTS TO PENNSYLVANIA, 1641 - 1819: A CONSOLIDATION OF SHIP PASSENGER LISTS FROM THE PENNSYLVANIA MAGAZINE OF HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY;
3) IMMIGRANTS TO THE MIDDLE COLONIES; and
4) PASSENGERS TO AMERICA.

     These publications refer to an approximate total of 58,000 people who arrived in New England or the Middle Colonies during the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries. Since the data came from several sources, information about individuals varies. Among the details you may find are the name of the ship on which the person arrived, ports and dates of departure and arrival, names of wives and children, age, occupation, religion, place of origin or residence, and date of naturalization. IMMIGRANTS TO THE NEW WORLD, 1600s - 1800s condenses facts about many early American pioneers into one handy source.

     Because a large number of people lived in or passed through the Old Line State, many family researchers will be interested in the second CD, MARYLAND GENEALOGIES AND MARRIAGES, 1634 - 1820. It contains images of six basic works, four of which are by the well-known author Robert Barnes. The books are

1) MARYLAND MARRIAGES, 1634 - 1820 (3 volumes);
2) BALTIMORE COUNTY FAMILIES, 1659 - 1759; and
3) MARYLAND GENEALOGIES FROM THE MARYLAND HISTORICAL MAGAZINE (2 volumes).

     Composed of material from a wide variety of resources, this CD identifies approximately 125,000 persons in early Maryland. Since it reproduces articles from magazines and Barnes's book about Baltimore residents, many individuals are placed in the context of family relationships. Genealogists trying to find information on people prior to 1821 may find useful data on MARYLAND GENEALOGIES AND MARRIAGES, 1634 - 1820.

     Because CDs can be time-saving assets, researchers who already have some of the books mentioned above may want to have them in digital form. If a researcher wishes to copy a few pages, for example, it is quicker to print them off from the computer than to drive to a store to xerox them. Using a CD version for copying also saves wear and tear on the books.

     Each CD contains instructions for easy use of its contents. It also provides information on the website for free downloads of the Family Archive Viewer if needed.

     Originally priced at $29.99, IMMIGRANTS TO THE NEW WORLD, 1600s - 1800s (item order #7170) is now available for only $19.99. Also originally priced at $29.99, MARYLAND GENEALOGIES AND MARRIAGES, 1634 - 1820 (item order #7195) is on sale for $19.99. To the price of the CDs, buyers should add the cost for postage and handling charges. For U. S. postal mail, the cost is $4 for one CD and $2.00 for each additional copy; for UPS, the cost is $6 for one copy and $2.50 for each additional CD. Both may be purchased by check, MasterCard, or Visa from Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 3600 Clipper Mill Rd., Suite 260, Baltimore, Maryland 21211 (for phone orders, call toll free 1-800-296-6687; fax 1-410-752-8492; website www.genealogical.com).
