As the Fourth of July celebration draws near, Americans should take the time to remember those who participated in the American Revolution. As in all wars, many were killed while many others survived. Although life expectancy in the late 1700s and early 1800s was usually shorter than in modern times, some veterans did reach a "ripe old age." The following death notice appears in the newspaper Patriot and Democrat, Hartford, CT, 21 May 1836, p. 3, c. 2:
"In Wethersfield, Mr. Thomas BOOTH, aged 80, a revolutionary pensioner."
Now we continue the list in the Norwich Journal, Norwich, NY, 8 April 1847 (New Series, Vol. IX, no. 51), p. 3, c. 6. (Because the print is faded in a few places, some letters or names are questionable.)
