If you have kin in the far West Texas region, have you ever looked at issues of the annual publication, Journal of Big Bend Studies? Sometimes the scholarly periodical, sponsored by the Center of Big Bend Studies at Sul Ross State University, contains articles which include genealogical information. For instance, Volume 22, which was published in 2010, has family data in “The Big Bend: Personal Reminiscences” by Richard H. Hancock. His material furnishes a brief history of the GILLETT and HANCOCK families of Alpine, Texas, as well as details about their ancestral lines, HUMPHRIS and POWE.
