     The Virginia Genealogical Society (VGS) and the Friends of the Virginia State Archives (FVSA) will hold a joint spring conference in Richmond, Virginia, on 29-30 April 2016. Since sessions will take place onsite, “The Library of Virginia: Records and Research Strategies” will be the theme of the conference. Featured speakers on 29 April will be Christian Kolbe, Errol Somay, Tom Crew, and Greg Crawford, all of whom work at the LVA. Professional genealogist, Sharon Hodges, will conduct the programs on 30 April. In addition to a “walking tour” of the Library, sessions will pertain to navigation of the LVA website, a discussion of the Archives Annex Reading Room and its collections, utilization of outside resources to locate records at LVA, a discussion of Virginia wills and estate records, the Virginia Chronicle Newspaper Database, militia records from colonial times to World War I, and the African American Narrative Digital Collection.

     Registration fees for both days will be $70 for members of VGS or the Friends and $80 for non-members. Fees for one day only (either Friday or Saturday) will be $40 for VGS/Friends members and $45 for non-members. Please add another $10 to registration fees after 8 April 2016.
