The town of Thomson, Georgia, will provide the backdrop for the ANSLEY family reunion, which will occur on 1-3 June 2012. In addition to opportunities for informal socializing and exchanging family information, activities will include a tour of the museum and the new art exhibit downtown. Persons attending the meeting will also be able to go to the Rock House, which was built by Thomas ANSLEY in 1785. Believed to be one of Georgia’s oldest documented houses with its design still intact, it was the home of some of the ancestors of former U. S. President Jimmy Carter.

To receive a registration form and to learn more details about the upcoming thirty-fifth annual gathering, get in touch with Roger and Marcia Spafford, 1257 Arlene Court SW, Lilburn, GA 30047-4301 or call 770-923-6182. The deadline for registering is May 25. Since there are several other events scheduled in Thomson at this time of year, early reservations for lodging are recommended.

If you have an ANSLEY ancestor and will be unable to go to the reunion, you may want to become a member of the Ansley Family Association (AFA), the organization that plans the reunion. Twice a year, the group publishes a newsletter, which is available for the annual subscription fee of only $10. Still edited by Roger and Marcia Spafford, the AFA periodical updates ANSLEY births, marriages, and deaths from all over the country and includes photographs and details about the previous year’s reunion. It also carries a variety of miscellaneous genealogical information; for example, an interesting item in the Spring 2012 issue of the newsletter is the transcription of a letter written to Mrs. Euphemia Allen Ansley Phillips by W. H. King of the Texas State Adjutant General’s Office in 1885. Checks, payable to AFA, may be sent to AFA Membership, Attn: James (Jim) Ansley, Jr., 359 Rainbow Lake Drive, Brevard, NC 28712-9770.

On 22-23 June 2012, the tenth annual TOLLIVER family reunion will take place at the Carl D. Perkins Community Center, located on Route 32/ Flemingsburg Road in Morehead, KY. All TOLLIVER/TOLIVER descendants are welcome to attend. In addition to the opportunity to meet new relatives and exchange genealogical data, individuals at the meeting will enjoy several special activities. Author of a forthcoming book pertaining to the Tolliver-Martin feud, Dr. J. D. Reeder will participate in a question-and-answer session. A descendant of John Tolliver (born in 1760), country music singer David Tolliver will give a performance. Dan Capals of Nebraska, a Tolliver descendant, will be present to discuss a book he is writing about Tollivers who enlisted and served in the Civil War.

Continuing projects to which relatives may contribute are compiling family recipes for a cookbook and adding photographs and information for posters in recognition of all military veterans. As usual, a silent auction will be held as a fundraiser. For more information about the reunion and places to stay, go to the website at www.tolliverfamily.com or get in touch with Emma Lee and Bill Tolliver, 472 E. Torrence Rd., Columbus, OH 43214 (phone 614-267-6556; e-mail [email protected]).
