     Here is more information about the men whose names appear in the “Answered the Last Call” column in the June 1929 (Volume 50, No. 3) issue of The Texas Druggist, the official periodical of the Texas Pharmaceutical Association, published in Forney, Texas. (Some punctuation may be added or deleted in the narrative for clarity. Surnames are capitalized for emphasis.)

     Page 61 –

     “N. J. ALEXANDER, one of the pioneer druggists of Texas, died at his home in Austin on March 14th. He had been in business in Austin for the past seventy-four years, being 86 years old at the time of his death. He could re-call (sic) with ease and accuracy historical events which occurred during the time of Sam Houston and other public men of that period. The drugs for his first store were hauled in ox wagons, the only mode of transportation in those days.

     He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula Alexander; one daughter, Mrs. ASPLUND of Chicago; and one son, John Alexander of Grand Rapids. He was a member of the Southern Presbyterian Church.

     After an illness of two weeks with influenza and pneumonia, R. A. IRVIN died March 14th. He was the senior member of the Wallis Drug Store, having established the store, April 4th, 1894. Mr. Irvin was chairman of the Board of Directors of the Wallis State Bank [and] also had been president of the bank for a number of years...

     Mr. Irvin was born in Friendship, Tenn., April 2, 1867, and, for the past thirty-five years, has been a resident of Wallis. He is survived by his wife;
two children, Mrs. Howard LAWHON of Moody and Richard A. IRVIN of Wallis;
his mother, Mrs. Alex IRVIN;
three sisters, Misses Mamie and Irene IRVIN and Mrs. Kate EDMUNDS of Center Hill, Fla.; [and]
one brother, Dr. John E. IRVIN of Wharton.

     Otto COFFEY, 41, for fifteen years a well-known McKinney druggist, died in a Dallas sanitarium, Monday, May 27th, and his body taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. P. COFFEY, at McKinney. Burial followed in the Fitzhugh Cemetery at Forest Grove, the old family burying ground.


     O. Y. RATHBUN, 76, druggist and former mayor and postmaster at Whitewright, died Sunday, April 28th, at Glendale, California, where he had resided for the last eleven years.”
