The tenth national STIDHAM family reunion is scheduled for June 17-19, 2011, in San Antonio, TX. Headquarters for the annual meeting will be the LaQuinta Inns & Suites Convention Center, located at 303 Blum in the heart of the downtown area. Registration fees are $100.00 for adults and $60.00 for children age 12 and under. Activities will include a fund-raising auction, a Mexican Fiesta buffet dinner, and a grand bus tour to see such sights as the historic Alamo and the picturesque River Walk.
Each year the event is sponsored by the Timen Stiddem Society, named for one of the first Swedish immigrants to America. Settling in 1654 in New Sweden (now Wilmington, DE), Timen Stiddem anglicized his name to Timothy Stidham. Variant spellings of the surname include STIDAM, STIDDAM, STIDOM, STEDHAM, STEADHAM, and STEDDOM. Descendants who cannot attend the reunion may want to join the organization in order to receive the society's award-winning quarterly newsletter. Annual dues of $20.00 include a subscription to the periodical, which carries announcements of Stidham relatives’ milestones (births, graduations, marriages, anniversaries, honors received, and deaths) from all over the United States. The Spring 2011 issue also contains articles about Benjamin Hezekiah STEADHAM, Confederate soldier and prisoner-of-war from Texas, and about George Linsay and Royce Worth STEADHAM, brothers lost at sea during World War II. On June 24-25, 2011, the TOLLIVER family annual reunion will take place at the Carl D. Perkins Community Center in Morehead, KY. All TOLLIVER/TOLIVER descendants are invited to attend. In addition to exchanging family information, activities will include a family talent-hobby show, a pot luck lunch, a silent auction, and recognition of veterans. On their own, participants will be able to tour family cemeteries and feud sites. (The Tolliver-Martin feud occurred during the years 1884 and 1887 in the Morehead, KY, area.) Appearing on page 278 of the December 2010 (Vol. 69, No. 12) issue of the Library of Congress Information Bulletin is the article, “An Extensive Tree, Confucian Genealogy Presented to Library.” It tells about the special donation of 80 volumes which document the family tree of the famous Chinese philosopher, Confucius. The set records 83 generations of his descendants (more than 2 million individuals), believed to be the largest family tree in the world.
