     Here are more selected items found in the 5 July 1934 issue (Volume 6, Number 29) of the Shelby County newspaper, Center Daily News, published in Center, Texas. (Surnames are capitalized for emphasis. Some punctuation may be changed for clarity.)

     Page 2 – Notice concerning the Center Daily News stated it was owned and published each week days (sic) except Saturday and Sunday by the News-Champion Publications, Inc. The officers were Tom E. FOSTER, President; M. E. TERRY, Secretary-Treasurer; and Joe B. FOSTER, Managing Editor.

     In her column titled “Joaquin News,” Mrs. Clara RAMSEY included the following items:

     “Mrs. Florence JARRELL of Nacogdoches was the guest of Mrs. Annie HANSON and Mrs. Clara RAMSEY the past weekend.

     Misses Mozelle and Jimmie Faye BLACK complimented Mrs. Peyton COX with a shower Friday afternoon at the spacious home of her (sic; should be “their”) parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. BLACK. Mrs. Cox, before her recent marriage, was Miss Dode? (name partly faded) CRAWFORD, popular member of the younger society set. About 60 guests enjoyed this hospitality and reported one of the nicest showers given in this town. A large number of the bride’s associates from Logansport were present. After a most entertaining program was rendered, refreshments of sandwiches and iced tea were served....

     Mrs. D. GORDON and small son left? (word is unreadable since page is torn) Friday night for Corpus Christi to join the husband and father, who has employment in that city.

     Supt. E. A. STANFIELD and wife and son, Aurice, left on Thursday for Beaumont to visit a sister of Mrs. Stanfield.

     Misses Onita HENNIGAN and Pearl RHYMES and Floyd WAGSTAFF of Nacogdoches college spent the weekend here with (rest of sentence omitted in newspaper.)

     The revival meeting at the Methodist Church will begin Sunday, July 8th. Rev. BATES will be assisted by Rev. RIDER of Atlanta, Texas.

     Rev. A. L. MEADOR is conducting a revival meeting in Anderson County this week.

     Mesdames T. J. JOHNSON, D. F. CURRY, and Miss Wetah CURRY attended Memorial services at Newburn Church last Saturday.

     Mr. and Mrs. Lewis B. TAYLOR returned Sunday night from a wedding trip to points in Arkansas. Mrs. Taylor was complimented with a shower, Tuesday afternoon, with Mrs. J. K. FRIDDELL as hostess assisted by others.

     Born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur HINTON, June 17, a son who has been named Arthur Joyce. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. J. H. ENGLISH of Jackson community.

     J. (second initial is unreadable due to torn page) BLACK was able to be brought home from a Shreveport sanitarium, Monday, and is recovering rapidly from an appendix operation.

     J. C. CRAWFORD has sold his stock of merchandise to J. W. PIERCE, who will continue business at the old stand. Mr. PIERCE is a pioneer merchant of Joaquin and needs no introduction to the public. He plans” (item is continued on page 3, which is missing in this copy of newspaper).

     Several advertisements appear on page 2, including one for Murvel ADAMS, agent for the Shreveport Times. Another is for H. B. JOHNSON, insurance man of Center, who sold “all kinds of insurance.” Yet another is for Noble WEAVER of Center, District Representative for Acme Life Insurance Company, whose home office was in Austin.
