     Here are selected data from the 17 September 1936 issue of the Shelby County newspaper, The Center Daily News, published in Center, Texas. (Surnames are capitalized for emphasis. Some punctuation may be changed for clarity.)

     The items below are found in the “Society” column edited by Miss Jennie IVEY.

     “Miss Sarah Lynn SANDERS left today for Austin where she will enter the State University.

     The Lantana Garden Club will meet at 4:00...Friday afternoon in the home of Mrs. T. L. HURST with Mesdames J. J. CARROLL and N. J. ROBISON as co-hostesses....

     Mr. and Mrs. Elza JONES and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas JONES are spending the weekend in Dallas and Fort Worth, visiting the Centennial and the Big Shows.

     James Robert TAYLOR left this morning for Arlington where he will enter the North Texas Agricultural College.

     The W. M. S. met in the auditorium of the Bapitst (sic) church Monday afternoon at 2:30 with Mrs. W. C. McLENDON leading the program about Christain (sic) Education.” Mrs. R. H. CLINE gave the devotional. Mrs. L. W. PALMER led the opening prayer and Mrs. L. D. COOK led the closing prayer.

     The meeting focused on the theme of Christian education as defined by a group of women. Individual topics discussed were as follows:

     The need of Christian colleges – Mrs. W. W. RIVERS;

     Christian influence in public schools – Mrs. F. L. MOFFETT;

     Prayer – Mrs. A. MEEKS; and

     Fruits of Christian schools – Mesdames Robert JOHNSON, J. I. CRAWFORD, Alf DAY, W. H. CONWAY, Travis WATSON, and A. MEEKS.”

     The information below was found in Shelby County, Texas, Deed Book 4, p. 232.

     “Received, Circleville, Williamson County, Texas, September 19th A. D. 1881 of R. L. PARKER twenty dollars in full payment of our entire interest in a tract of 228 acres of land situated in Shelby County, Texas, known as the M. SEAZER [SWEAZEA?} homestead being on the headright of C. B. LINDSEY on Askins Creek our said interest being a child’s part of one sixth.

     To have and to hold unto the said PARKER his heirs and assigns against all persons claiming the said interest or part thereof.

     Given under our hands this date above written.”
