[Incomplete letter written in blue ink, one page, written on both sides with number (3) on one page, (4) on the other.]
There was a murder in town last week one fellows partner cut
his head nearly off with a razor and a hatchet. he is supposed to
be insane. a good many suicides happened last winter. mostly
among fast women that had run their race as is usually the ending
of such people. Well dear, you wrote about little sister Susie,
and of the fellow she was going with. I am surprised. The people
in Montgomery thought Ray was the cause of Conleys failure. the
business men seemed to think he was a terrible fellow you
remember one telling you once before of some of his smartness.
dont go to telling this now. only I dont want him to bother
around our house. while I am poor as hell I would not take my
fathers money to flyh high with the girls. let Susie do as she
pleases for my part for I think her mother has a pretty good
ideah of the gentlemens probibly as good an oppinion as of her
present soninlaw. However dear when I return will try to forget
all grievences done me. (for many they be)
I will start as soon as possible after the first of July. may
stop in California for a few days also want to stop at Denver Col
and see Bob Well you have been writing me how handsome the men
say you are! will tell you what actually happened on the 7th or
yesterday I went before an official to have a bill of sale made
affidavit to. I had to have two witnesses to the same. the
officer asked them if they knew me to be twenty one years old or
would swear to it? no, sir! so you see the people here take me to
be a young fellow, not? I have been fleshy weighed over 170# you
cant believe it???? well it is a fact I surprised myself but it
is getting terrible warm now. and am falling of fast I am wearing
36 x 31 pants so you see what beans and bacon does for a fellow.
we have had over a quarter of beef this winter that cost 75¢ per
# one quarter amounted to 142.00 every thing is in porpotient in
price
with love to all and much to my Girl & Boy
