OBITUARY. Mrs. Will Kneen
Edna Margaret Gosling Kneen was born in Lake City, Minn., on July 4, 1872. She was third in a family of six children.
Her early childhood was spent near Virogue, Wisconsin. In 1886 her family moved to Mound City, S. Dak. She taught for a few years near Mound City and at Clark, S. Dak.
She was united in marriage to William Lewis Kneen on March 13th, 1895. They made their home on a farm near Mound City for a year and then moved to Ocheyedan, Iowa, where they lived for four years. Following that period they moved to Hartley, Iowa, where she spent the remainder of her life.
To this union was born one son, Harold John Kneen.
Throughout her life she was vitally interested in church work. In late years she had joined in the activities of the local Methodist church. Besides her church interest, she was an active member of the Relief Corps No. 189.
She was very devoted to her home and was a very wonderful wife and mother. She had a very forgiving nature and loved her neighbors.
For a number of years she had been failing in health. After winter flu complications set in and she gradually lost her strength. On Wednesday, Sept. 10, at twelve noon, she passed away.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, William Kneen, her daughter-in-law, Helen Kneen, and her grandchild, Robert John. She also leaves her sisters, Mrs. Lydia Gardner of Clam Falls, Wisc., Mrs. Jessie V. Schockey of Balsam Lake, Wisc., Mrs. Ella Allerdings of Riverside, Calif., and a brother, Harold Gosling of Fargo, N. Dak. Besides her parents, her son, Harold, one brother, Albert, and one sister, Bertha Rufer, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were in the Methodist Church Saturday afternoon, Sept. 13 at 2:00 o'clock. The Rev S. A. Kruschwitz officiated with Mrs. Harrison Pike at the organ. Delores and Dorothy Pettijohn sang "Beautiful Isle" and "Abide With Me". Interment was in the Hartley Cemetery.
Among those present at the funeral were her sister, Mrs. Shockey, a niece, Mrs. Violet Dornbusch of Mobridge, S. Dak., and her daughter-in-law and grandson from Los Angeles, Calif.
Again we say with the poet:
"A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A vacancy left in our hearts
Which never can be filled."
