Death of a Former Resident of Hartley.
Mrs. Charles Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kneen, passed away at her home near Mound City, South Dakota, Friday, September 5, 1902, after an illness of several months, of consumption. She had been in poor health for several years and gradually grew worse and had been bedfast since July 2.
Sarah Kneen was born on the Isle of Man, February 28, 1866, and two years later emigrated with her parents to America and came to Illinois, where she resided until their removal to O'Brien County in 1883. She was united in marriage with Charles Smith, April 27, 1891. They resided in Hartley until March, 1894, when they moved to Campbell county, South Dakota, and settled on a farm northwest of Mound City, and resided there until her death.
She leaves a husband, father and mother, three sisters and three brothers to mourn her departure.
The funeral was held from the home Sunday and the body buried temporarily and later will be brought here and interred in the Hartley cemetery in accordance with the wishes the deceased.
