Obituary of John Thomas Kneen
JOHN THOMAS KNEEN
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Methodist church for Tom Kneen who formerly lived here. He was a brother to Will Kneen who lives north of Hartley. Interment was in the Hartley cemetery.
John Thomas Kneen was born March 16, 1863 on the Isle of Man off the coast of England. At an early age he came with his parents to America, settling in Galva, Illinois, and from there moving to Hartley when he grew to manhood.
In 1907, he was married to Maude Foster at Hartley, Iowa, where they established their home. About 30 years ago they moved to Brownsdale, Minnesota. Mr. Kneen engaged in farming as his life work until about 15 years ago.
Four sons, Merle of Crane Lake; Marvin of Austin; Chester, now with the parachute troops at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and Shelby in the air corps at Sheppard Field, Texas, and one daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. Frank Culver) of Des Moines, Iowa, with his wife of Cherokee, Iowa, survive. One brother, Will Kneen of Hartley, Iowa, two grandchildren, Judy and Bryce Culver and several nieces in Galva, Illinois, are also left.
Mr. Kneen was a home lover and a great reader. He attended the Methodist church. He died on August 6, 1942, at the Jacobs Rest Home at Austin, Minnesota.
