BIOGRAPHY: The Democratic Press
Ravenna, Ohio
28 April 1870 (Thursday)
Charles P. Knight, of Munson, an old, and otherwise respectable man, was convicted of the crime of rape upon the person of his wife's niece, a girl of about the same age as the other, and an inmate of his own household, as usual in such cases regard to the justice of the verdict. A sadder sight was never witnessed, than when this gray haired old man, who had nearly lived out his appointed time, and has been a citizen of the County for about forty years, stood up to receive his sentence. The trial was ably conducted, and the Court is commended for the manner in which it performed it delicate and important duty.

Amanda A. HAZEN [Parents] [scrapbook]-5662 was born on 18 Sep 1803 in North Hero, Grand Isle, Vermont. She died on 25 Sep 1895 in Chardon, Geauga, Ohio. She was buried in Chardon Municipal Cemetery, Chardon, Geauga, Ohio. Amanda married Charles Pinckney KNIGHT-2441 in 1825.

Daniel BALDWIN [Parents] [scrapbook]-2837 was born on 14 Nov 1731 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut. He died on 17 Jul 1810 in Dover, Windham, Vermont. He was buried in Baldwin Cemetery, West Dover, Windham, Vermont. Daniel married Hannah KNIGHT-102 on 5 Apr 1773 in Mansfield, Connecticut.

BIOGRAPHY: Revolutionary War Veteran - Daniel Baldwin (1731-1810) served, 1780, as private in Capt. Timothy Bush's company, Col. Peter Olcutt's regiment, Vermont troops.

He is a descendant of the 1630-1640 immigrant Henry Baldwin of Woburn, Mass as follows: Daniel II > Daniel I > Benjamin > Henry of Woburn.

Daniel Baldwin was born and raised in Connecticut. He married Anna "Hannah" Knight on Apr 15, 1753 in Mansfield, Conn. She bore him eight children: Daniel, Elijah, Anne, Joseph, Shubael, Lydia, Philip Turner, and Deborah between 1754 to 1776. He moved to Vermont sometime before 1775 and the Revolution.

He served in the Revolution as private in Capt. Timothy Bush's company, Col. Peter Olcutt's regiment, Vermont troops.

She died before him, leaving him a widower until he died in 1816, in Dover. The History of Dover lists him as buried in the Baldwin Private Cemetery in Dover, Windham Co, VT. - Find A Grave Memorial 58178504

Hannah KNIGHT [Parents] [scrapbook]-102 was born on 15 Nov 1735 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut. She was christened on 11 Jan 1736 in Newent Congregational Church, Lisbon, New London, Connecticut. She died on 3 Nov 1809 in Dover, Windham, Vermont. Mrs. M. Camilla Baldwin Ackley.
DAR ID Number: 96386
Born in Utica, N. Y.
Wife of John D. Ackley.
Descendant of Elijah Baldwin, and of Daniel Baldwin, as follows:
1. Sylvester C. Baldwin (d. 1839) m. 1866 Anna Jane Williamson (1845-74).
2. Asher Baldwin (1802-72) m. 1828 Wealthy Terry (1812-78).
3. Elijah Baldwin m. 2nd 1790 Polly Richardson (1768-1812).
4. Daniel Baldwin m. 1753 Anna Knight (1735-1809).
Elijah Baldwin (1756-1841) applied for a pension, 1818, for service as private, 1775-77, in the Connecticut Line. His claim was allowed. He was born in Windham, Conn.; died in Dover, Vt.
Daniel Baldwin (1731-1810) served, 1780, as private in Capt. Timothy Bush's company, Col. Peter Olcutt's regiment, Vermont troops. He was born in Norwich, Conn.; died in Dover, Vt.

Hannah is descended from George Partridge, Puritan immigrant to Plymouth, Mass in the late 1630's. She is Hannah-4, Samuel-3, John-2, George-1. Her Puritan immigrant lines include immigrants Stephen Tracy, William Kemp, Ralph Partridge (not related to George), and Samuel Seabury, as well as early Connecticut settlers Thomas Rose and Robert Allyn.

She was the first wife of Daniel Baldwin I. Married Nov 16, 1730. They had five children: Daniel II, Hannah, Ebenezer, Deborah, and Phebe.

Place of death and burial is a guess. Daniel Baldwin married, second, a Conn girl in 1743 in Conn. So, it would appear that Hannah died while the family was still in Conn, but whether Mansfield or Norwich is not known to this biographer. The family then apparently moved, with the second wife as mother, at some point before the Revolution, to Dover, Vermont. - Find A Grave Memorial 58759177
