Porter J. GREEN [scrapbook]-32506 was born on 12 Nov 1841 in Berlin, Rensselaer, New York. He died on 26 Aug 1921 in Farmington, Fulton, Illinois. He was buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington, Fulton, Illinois. Porter married Matilda BRIMMER-28958.

BIOGRAPHY: Portrait and Biographical Album of Fulton County, Illinois: page 362-363; Transcribed by Margaret Rose Whitehurst
Porter J. Green is a well-to-do farmer and stock-raiser of this county, owning a valuable farm, of which one hundred acres lie on section 5, and sixty acres on section 6, Farmington township. He is a native of Rensselaer County, N. Y. His father, Jonathan Green, was born in the same county. He was there married to Miranda Himes, and of the nine children born to them the following is recorded: Antoinette married Barber Green and lives in Adams, Mass.; Samuel resides in Zilonite, Mass.; Margaret, who lives in Rhode Island, has been twice married, first to Mr. Lamb and afterward to Mr. Green; Priscilla lives in Adams, Mass.; William died at the age of twenty-two; Porter, our subject; Amy died at the age of nineteen; Dyer is a resident of Nebraska; Ambrose, of Rhode Island. the father died in Rensselaer County, and the mother then removed back to Massachusetts, where her life was brought to a close at the age of eighty years. The subject of this biographical review was born November 12, 1841. He was well trained by his worthy parents, and started out in life well prepared to fight its battles. He early adopted the calling of a farmer and has met with success in his pursuits. He purchased his present homestead in 1880. This is provided with a neat and substantial set of buildings, including a fine new barn which was erected in 1889. The farm is first class in all its appointments and is one of the most desirable places in the neighborhood. Our subject was married in Jefferson County, his native State, to Miss Matilda Brimmer, a daughter of Jacob and Matilda (Saunders) Brimmer. Her father came to Fulton County in 1854 and became a very well-to-do man. He died in the State of New York in January, 1886, at the advanced of eighty-two years. His widow is still living in Jefferson County, N. Y., and is in her seventy-ninth year. Of the eight children born of their marriage seven grew to maturity, namely, Jacob, Nathan, Electa, Mary, Matilda, Ambrose and Sarah. Mrs. Green was born in Jefferson County, N. Y. She is a capable woman, and knows well how to manage the affairs of her household. Two children are the fruit of her marriage with our subject--Arthur, who lives at home, and Nellie. The latter is the wife of Nelson Wright, of Farmington Township, and they have one child--Lloyd, a beautiful, black-eyed boy. Mrs. (Saunders) Brimmer and Mrs. John S. Green are the only survivors of the Saunders family. The Brimmers were Methodists in their religious views, the Saunders were Seventh-Day Baptists and the Greens were Baptists. Thus our subject and his wife received an early religious training, are people of earnest Christian belief and among the leading members of the Baptist Church of Farmington. As a true citizen should be, Mr. Green is interested in politics and is a stanch adherent of the Republican party. - Find A Grave Memorial 115266970

RODNEY LEE KNIGHT, 68, of Duncan, Oklahoma, left to go on his next journey on January 9, 2012, at home, surrounded by his loved ones as he wished. Rodney had a very long, courageous battle with many health problems. He was an inspiration to so many people because no matter how bad or how many health problems he had, he always held his head up, gritted his teeth and went on with daily life, saying "All my days are good, some are just better than the others," or "I'm fine," or "Gotta pull up my boot staps." His courage and strength is one we will never forget. The celebration of life will be Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 10 a.m., with Chris Deal and Roger Latham officiating. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rodney was born January 25, 1943, to the late Gilbert Britton Knight and the late Mildred Lackey Knight in Hays, Kansas. He moved around Kansas, Texas, Louisiana and Illinois as a "Halliburton Brat," as he called it, but moved to Duncan in 1958 and graduated from Duncan High School in 1961. He attended college at Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas. He worked at Halliburton until 1982 when he started his own company, Sichem Oilfield Chemicals. He has been disabled since 1992 and went on dialysis, but received the gift of life, a kidney, on July 2, 2001. He always had, no matter how sick he was or how bad he hurt, a kind, positive word for everyone. He was an amazing Dad, Coach, Cook and Grandpa, and took all four titles very seriously. He truly loved Duncan and was proud to call it his home. Rodney is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter and son- in-law, Monica and Curtiss Huffaker, and grandson, Clinton; son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Marcie Knight, and grandsons Keegan, Austin and Vincent; sister, Beverly Knight, Little Rock, Arkansas; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Ronnie Williams, Sweetwater Texas; brother, Gib Knight, Jr., Las Vegas, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Sternadel, Ronnie Hutto, Eric Baldwin, Donny Laferr, Clint Huffaker and Evan Hart. In honor of Rodney, please sign your driver's license to be an organ donor or, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Make a Wish Foundation.
