Hi cousin,
I would like a whole line back to Richard and Sarah. Thank you. I have been following the wrong Knight. Remember, I am very new at this. Oh boy! I can't find any listing for Shubeal in any of the censuses. Only a Joshua and I bet they were related. Calvin Knight married Lucretia Hamelton Damon on Dec. 25, 1842 in Lebanon, NY.  She was born in Chesterfiield, Ma. on Dec. 12, 1823 and died in Whately Aug. 31, 1898. That was the year that my grandmother was born to Lizzie. Her father was Salma, and her mother's name was Hannah, Torry). She was their 5th daughter.

Calvin's children were,
Infant daughter                  Born/Died Oct. 7, 1843
Hannah Emmaline Knight           Born Dec. 16, 1844
Harriet Sophronia Knight         Born Oct. 12, 1846

Malintha Ann Knight              Born Nov. 28,1858
Died July, 28 1888 in Coventry, Ct.
Charles Nelson Knight            Born in Whately, Ma.   Feb. 15, 1861
Edgar Calvin Knight              Born Whately, Ma. Jan. 22, 1867
Imelda, (Mel) Burns Knight       Born Whately, Ma.  Aug. 15, 1869
                                Died Oct. 16, 1936

I think that is the complete list.
Henry Winfield was in the Civil War. My grandmother, Ella Clark, remembers her mother, Lizzie, telling her about the time that her brother, Henry, came home from the war. Lizzie remembered him walking down the dirt road to the house. He had some kind of malady that he contracted during the war and died a few years after that. Mel was my grandmother's favorite aunt. I wish I knew when the sheets that I have were written. They were for my grandmother and she was listed as Ms. Ella Clark so it probably was prior to 1919.
Nice to meet you too.
Anne

He bought the place in 1865, or thereabouts, and two of his children were born there. Since he died the place has been bought by Charles H. Field, son of Paul W.

Diana King-Knight, b. March 7, 1816; d. June 26, 1871. She married Shubal Knight and spent her life at Pompey, N. Y. They ad four children: Esther and Adelaide died young. Emma R. and Clifford live together on the old place, and have never married. The father died April 15, 1900.
Diana suffered greatly for 12 years with an aggravated rheumatic trouble. When Clifford, a promising young man, was about 30 he was attacked by the same dread disease. It has now run into hip disease, with no hope of cure. At the close of 1903 he had had 137 operations performed upon his hip, to remove the accumulation of pus upon the bone. Through it all he remains patient and cheerful. His sister Emma is giving her life to him, as he did first to her mother, and then to her father. All the heroes are not of the battlefield, nor are all the heroines those who have done world-famous deeds. Emma was born June 21, 1847, and Clifford in March, 1859.

They had the following children.

LAND: The Post-Standard
Syracuse, New York
18 April 1907 (Thursday)
The signature of a deed under which Miss Mary L. Porter of Baldwinsville claims to own a house and lot and twenty acres of land in Pompey occupied by Miss Emma R. Knight was disputed before Justice P. C. J. De Angelis yesterday in an action brought by Miss Porter against Miss Knight. The alleged deed was given by Shubal Knight to David Porter, the two being fathers of the parties to the suit. Miss Knight claims that the signature was a forgery and that she is entitled to the property as inherited from her father and also by adverse possession, having occupied the place for over twenty years. J. R. Shea of Baldwinsville, with M. L. McCarthy of this city, as counsel appears for Miss Porter and D. P. Morehouse and E. J. Mizen of Oswego appear for Miss Knight. The trial will probably end to-day.

The evidence was concluded before Justice P. C. J. De Angelis and the summed up by D. P. Morehouse of Oswego for the defense in the case of Miss Mary L. Porter of Baldwinsville against Miss Emma R. Knight of Pompey. The plaintiff seeks to establish title to a house and lot and a piece of land in Pompey, which Miss Knight say's belonged to her father, Shubal Knight, since 1868, and was left to her when he died in 1900. The case will be given to the jury by Justice De Angelis this morning. J. R. Shea of Baldwinsville and M. L. McCarthy of this city appear for Miss Porter.

Jury Gives Up After 5 Hours
But Request to be Discharged Is Declined by the Court
Validity Of Deed At Issue
Four Days Required for Trial of Case and Justice De Angelis Hopes for Verdict
After being out five hours the jury asked to be discharged as unable to agree in the case which took four days to try, brought by Miss Mary L. Porter to Baldwinsville against Miss Emma R. Knight of Pompey, in Part I. of the Trial Term of the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon. Justice P. C. J. De Angelis, however, declined to discharge the jurymen. Justice De Angelis told them that the trial had taken a long time and that it was important for them to agree if they could harmonize their differences of opinion. "I except to your Honor's statement that it is important that they agree, unless they agree for the defendant." Said Attorney D. P. Morehouse of Oswego for Miss Knight. "Are you serious in that exception?" asked the Justice. "I certainly am." Said the Oswego attorney. Justice De Angelis then stated to the jury that wanted it understood that he favored neither party in the suit and that they should consider all the evidence. Miss Porter claims that she holds title to a house and lot and a tract of nineteen acres of land in Pompey inherited by her from her father, David Porter. Miss Knight occupies the property and claims that it belonged to her father, Shubal Knight, as far back as 1868 and that it is now hers. She disputes the validity of a deed claimed by Miss Porter to have been given by Mr. Knight to Mr. Porter. J. R. Shea with M. L. McCarthy appear for the plaintiff.

Jury Failed to Agree

Two Aged Women Fight For Farm
Miss Knight Is Sued By Mrs. Porter Of Baldwinsville.
Two aged women are fighting in Supreme Court for the possession of a small farm on Pompey Hill, to which the plaintiff claims title under a transaction the fathers of the women had more than forty years ago. The property is occupied by Miss Emma R. Knight, who is nearly 70 years of age, and her brother, Clifford Knight, who is not only advanced in years, but a cripple and unable to appear in court in the of the home. The place is valued at $1,500 and is said to be the only property of the aged couple. The suit is brought for ejectment by Mary L. Porter of Baldwinsville, who claims that she is the owner of the property. Before 1879 the farm was owned by Shubal Knight, father of the defendant, and at that time an aged man. In that year, it is alleged by the plaintiff. Mr. Knight gave a deed of the property to her father, David Porter, and it is under this deed she claims title. Both men are dead, and their two daughters, as their heirs, are struggling for possession of the farm. Attorneys D. P. Morehouse and Edward J. Mizen of Oswega appear for Miss Knight and James R. Chea of Baldwinsville and George McGowan for Mrs. Porter. Two lines of defense are raised. It is contended that the deed, under which the plaintiff claims ownership was never executed by Shubal Knight and that it is not his signature to the paper. It is also alleged that whether the was genuine or not Miss Knight has been in undisputed possession for more than twenty years and has acquired good title to the property and cannot be disturbed. William W. Van Brocklin of Pompey who is regarded the oldest lawyer in Onandaga county, appeared at the Court House yesterday. He is one of the witnesses the case, as he had to do with drawing  certain papers nearly a half century ago. The trial of the action will continue today before Justice P. C. J. DeAngells and a jury.

Sister And Crippled Brother Must Vacate
Knights Ordered to Leave Home They Occupied for Fifty Years at Pompey Hill
That Miss Emma R. Knight, and her brother, the latter a cripple, must vacate their little farm at Pompey Hill, which for nearly half a century they have called home, was the decision of Justice P. C. J. De Angelis. He directed a verdict in favor of Mary L. Porter of Baldwinsville, who brought suit against Miss Knight for ejectment. A deed given in 1879 by Shubal Knight, father of Miss Knight, to David Porter, father of the plaintiff, was held by Justice De Angelis to be valid. J. R. Shea and George McGowan appeared for the plaintiff. An appeal will probably be taken, as Justice De Angelis said that the questions were very close. They were mostly matters of law and not fact.

Legal Fight Goes On For Farm In Pompey
Miss Knight, Who Has Lived on Place for Twenty Years, Appeals From Decision
The legal fight which Miss Emma R. Knight has carried on for several years to retain possession of the little place at Pompey Hill which she and her aged brother Clifford Knight have occupied and called their own for years, is still to be continued and notice of appeal was filed yesterday. The suit was brought by Mary L. Porter of Baldwinsville against Miss Knight, the plaintiff, claiming title to the property from her father, David Porter. She alleged that in 1879 Shubal Knight, father of Miss Knight, gave a deed to Mr. Porter. Attorney D.P. Morehouse of Oswego appeared in the case for Miss Knight and it was said that he did not charge for his services and paid much of the expense as the home represents practically everything that Miss Knight, who is nearly 75 years old possesses. The case was twice tried it being claimed by Miss Knight that the deed to Mr. Porter was never executed and if it was that title was lost because undisturbed possession for over twenty years. The first trial resulted in a disagreement of the jury, while at the second the verdict was for the plaintiff. From this result the appeal is taken to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

Pompey Man Hurt When Hit By Auto
Clifford Knight Suffers Serious Injuries Sunday; Is Confined To Home
Pompey - Clifford Knight, 75, a resident of this village, was struck down by an automobile at the intersection of the new Cherry Valley turnpike and the Cemetery road at 6:20 p.m. Sunday. His condition is regarded as serious. He was taken to the office of Dr. Frederick A. Hunt, where he it was found that he had suffered a fractured hip, lacerations about the head, bruises and shock. Trooper Hennessy of the Fayetteville patrol investigated the accident and Knight made a statement in which he said that he started across the road but did not cross as he saw several cars approaching. He waited until the cars had passed and then began to make his way across the highway. He stated that he had come within five feet of the opposite side when struck by the machine which was driven by L. Huested Myers, Jr., of Selkirk. Myers told Hennessy that he was driving east along the turnpike and Knight as the car was about to enter the intersection. He applied his brakes and car slid for fifty feet before it struck the old resident of this village.
