MILITARY: My Ancestor Night Knight is best documented in his service in the Revolutionary War where he fought for the freedom of our United States of America. There is not a lot known (for sure) regarding where Night lived prior to this or even who his father was. Family lore says that we are Welsh and this would make me believe we came from Pennsylvania before South Carolina.

State of Kentucky Christian County: SS
On this 23rd day of August 1832 personally appeared before the Honorable Benjamin Shackelford now sitting Sole Judge of the Christian Circuit Court for said County -- Knight Knight aged about 82 years a resident of said County -- who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832 – That he enlisted in the Revolutionary Army of the United States for and during the War -- at Charleston South Carolina near about 2 years before the fall of Charleston, he believes in the year 1777 -- in the 6th Regiment of regular troops commanded by Colonel Anderson – Major Holston in the company commanded by Captain Buchannon -- Lieutenant Brown -- does not recollect the Ensign's name --
 
He remained at Charleston under the command of the same officers nearly one year after his enlistment and from thence he marched he believes in the year 1778 under the command of Colonel Henderson to Tyga Light House from thence to Purrysburg upon Savannah River where we made a halt of about one month from thence he crossed the Savannah River and marched to Savannah where we had an engagement with General Clinton and we lay there from 2 to 3 months and from thence he marched a forced march back again to Charleston where he only remained a few days and the 6th Regiment being much broken was added to the 1st Regiment of Regular troops commanded by Colonel Pinckney & Major Pinckney (Brothers) -- and he was then under the command of Captain Linnon. He then went by water from Charleston nine miles to Sullivan's Island and remained there -- had an engagement and still remained on the Island while the British passed the Island to or near Charleston during the Siege of Charleston commanded by Sir H. Clinton -- When the Siege of Charleston commenced we again went by water to Charleston, --
 
He was in Charleston during the Siege -- He fought night & day for twenty-eight days --When the City of Charleston was surrendered by General Lincoln to Sir H. Clinton -- we were surrendered prisoners of war -- all the Prisoners were put in the Barracks and the South Carolina [sic, South Carolinians] after they were enrolled -- had the liberty of the Town -- on about eight days He ran away from them (the British) and went home -- and was not again called for -- he received no written discharge he remained in & served in the regular Army of the revolution about 2 years that he is now about 82 years of age -- he is poor and not able to labor. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency of any State of the United States - Sworn to and subscribed the day and year aforesaid. When the Sixth Regiment was broken up, he entered the First Regiment under Maj. Thomas Pinckney and Col. Charles Pinckney. He was taken prisoner at the fall of Charlestown, but was paroled. Rev. Calvin Ingalls of West Stafford preached some time as stated supply in Union. He was the son of Joseph Ingalls and Sarah Abbott of Pomfret, Conn., and was born November 22, 1760. He graduated at Dartmouth college in 1792, was settled in West Stafford in December 1796, and dismissed in March, 1803. He died in West Stafford, September 25, 1830. He married Mary Horton, eldest child of Rev. Ezra Horton, May 28, 1795. She died at Granby, Mass., May 12, 1833.

Mrs. Hattie Thatcher Knight, 60, widow of Frank Knight and former resident of Utah, died at her home in Taft, Cal., Monday morning of a heart attack, according to word received here by relatives. Mrs. Knight was born in Provo and later moved to Salt Lake City. She had resided in California 25 years. Mrs. Knight was an active member of the L.D.S. church. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Mary Thatcher, Provo; two daughters, Mrs. Dan Potter and Mrs. Guy Tucker, Los Angeles; a son Mark Knight, Taft, Cal.; three sisters, Mrs. Andrew McDonald, Heber City; Mrs. N. J. Peterson, Soda Springs, Idaho, and Mrs. D. J. Reese, Roosevelt, and Joe H. Thatcher, Salt Lake City. Funeral arrangements had not been completed Monday.

Provo – Funeral services for Mrs. Harriet Thatcher Knight, who died Sunday at Taft, Cal., will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Provo L. D. S. Second Ward, with Bishop B. H. Knudsen presiding. Friends may call at the home of Arthur Halladay, 557 West Fourth South street, from 11 a. m. until the time of the funeral. Burial will be in Provo City Cemetery.

Word has been received by Mrs. Mary Thatcher, 91, pioneer of Provo, and widow of George Thatcher, of the death of her daughter, Mrs. Harriet Thatcher Knight, 67, of Taft, Cal. Mrs. Knight, a widow of Frank Knight of Provo, was found dead in bed early Monday morning by her son, Mark Knight. Death was due to a heart attack, according to the family physician. Mrs. Knight was born July 25, 1868, in Provo, and had made her home in California for the past 20 years. She was well known here and had paid a visit to her mother only two months ago, at which time she was apparently in the best of health. Her husband, Frank Knight, died before the family moved from Provo. He was a son of the late Newell Knight. Surviving are two daughters and one son; Ora Knight Tucker and Lorene “Babe” Knight Potter, Hollywood, and Frank Marcus Knight, Taft. She leaves three grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters; Joseph Thatcher, Salt Lake City; Wilford Thatcher, Roosevelt; Mrs. Elizabeth McDonald, Heber; Mrs. Hager Peterson, Soda Springs, Idaho, and Mrs. Dina Reese, Upaica, Utah.
