Samuel Wilbur served as Captain in the Revolutionary war. In his pension record at Washington, D. C., are numerous papers referring to his service. Included is his commission as Captain of the 5th Co. of the trained band of Scituate, dated 11th day of  May, 1778. In 1833, at the age of 92, he applied for a pension, but owing to his advanced age was unable to recall all his service. His son Benjamin, in a letter to the government, stated: "He was captain of militia during the whole period of the Revolutionary War and was actively employed as he has often heard hem say, many, many years ago, and all his neighbors, who are old enough to remember, now say: Another commission dated June 23, 1776, is signed by Nicholas Cook, Esq." According to the testimony of Jonathan Smith, "Samuel Wilbur was considerably engaged in enlisting minute men in the spring of 1776 and the fall of that year. He served with Wilbur at Warwick for one month in 1777 at the Tippet House. He was in 1777 in what was called Spencer's expedition when sd. Wilbur was on duty at Tiverton. In the summer of 1780, he was on duty at Bristol. He served as captain and he was a zealous man of war." His will was made in 1835, in it he mentions all of his children.

Mary KNIGHT [Parents]-6908 was born in 1742 in Providence County, Rhode Island. She died on 27 Jul 1811 in Scituate, Providence, Rhode Island. Mary married Capt. Samuel WILBUR-6909 in 1756 in Little Compton, Newport, Rhode Island.

Members of the Session
From the "Historical Discourse" of Dr. James H. Taylor, published in 1888, we learn that the following list is "as complete as can be made" up to that date:
Deacons (Congregational polity)
Daniel W. Knight, Elijah Worthington, Allen Wright, Oliver C. Grosvenor, Nathaniel Tracy, Israel Denio, Jr.

Committee (Congregational polity of reunited church, 1847)
Allen Wright, Arba Blair, Elijah W. Wright, Joseph Kirkland, David K. Butts, David Hills, Bradford C. Dean, Oliver D. Grosvenor, D. W. Knight

Utica Daily Observer, Thursday Evending, May 3, 1861
On Friday afternoon last, Grant White, a venerable and esteemed resident of Wright's Settlement, was found dead by the roadside between his house and that of Deacon Daniel Knight, whom he had been visiting. He was 81 years of age and lived on “Canterbury Hill” since 1800. His wife died about a month ago.

OBITUARY: Utica Morning Herald, Tuesday, February 12, 1889
One of the oldest residents of this vicinity passed away at an early hour this morning in the death of Daniel W. Knight of Wright Settlement. The cause of his death was heart disease. The deceased was born March 1, 1804, on the farm where he has lived ever since. In April , 1825, he was married to Miss Lydia L. Kirkland, and after a married life of nearly half a century, she died in 1872. Mr. Knight was the first infant baptized in the church of the “first religious society of Rome, and was a member of the church about sixty years, and was a deacon in the church for many years. For the past thirty years he had been sexton of the Wright Settlement cemetery, where his interment will be made. As a sexton of the cemetery, although old, he was vigilant in the performance of his duties, and the cold chilling blasts of last winter did not keep him from his labors. He was an honest, conscientious man and a worthy citizen of any neighborhood. He leaves surviving three daughters, Mrs. Philander Soper of Verona, Mrs. L.M. Colburn and Miss Mary E. Knight of Wright Settlement. The funeral services will be conducted from the late residence at noon on Thursday.

Rome Semi-Weekly Citizen – Rome N.Y. – Wednesday, February 13, 1889
Deacon Daniel W. Knight, of Wright Settlement, and E. A. Walsworth of Delta, Pass to Their Final Reward.
The older residents of Rome and vicinity are pained to learn of the death of Deacon Daniel W. Knight, a lifelong resident of Wright Settlement, near this city. Deacon Knight had enjoyed comparatively good health all his life, and a few months ago his friends were sanguine he was destined to live several years longer. Although aged nearly 85 years, he was hale and hearty till about a week before his death. At times his heart had been somewhat affected, but he was feeling so well about a week ago that he sawed some wood to show the younger generation that he was still able to take a hand in hard work. The exertion, however proved to much for him, his heart difficulty beset him with greater severity and he continued to fail till Monday morning when he died. The father of the deceased, Daniel W. Knight came to Rome from Connecticut in 1790, and settled on the farm where his son has just died. The deceased was born on that farm, and it has ever since been his home; in fact his death occurred only a few feet from the very spot where he was born. Deacon Knight’s life was one of exemplary up-rightness and no man could point a finger to a dishonest or dishonorable act in his long life. He was the first infant baptized in the church of the “First Religious Society of Rome,” and he was a member of that church for over sixty years, holding the office of deacon for considerable portion of that time. For the last thirty years he was sexton of the Wright Settlement cemetery. Deacon Knight was one of the first subscribers to the Citizen, when it was established in 1840 by Horace N. Bill, and during the succeeding forty-nine years he invariably came in the first of January and paid a year in advance. In his latter years he took much pride in the fact that he had been so long a subscriber, and when he paid his subscription in January last he remarked that he should continue to take the Citizen until death prevented him. His was a nature where honesty and uprightness was an inborn principle, rather than a desire to be seen of men. With the exception of Benjamin Wheat, who is only one year younger than was Deacon Knight, the latter is the last of the old settlers in the locality where he lived. Mr. Wheat resides opposite the Knight homestead, and for a man his age is enjoying comparatively good health. The funeral will be held at the late residence of deceased to-morrow at noon, and the remains will be interred in the Wright Settlement cemetery. Three daughters survive; Mrs. Philander Soper of Verona, Mrs. L. M. Colburn and Miss Mary E. Knight of Wright Settlement.
