New London has no record of marriage and deaths of Thomas and Agnes, nor births of their children.
He first appears on New London records as freeman and voter in 1686, and the list of "new inhabitants between 1670 and 1700" names "Pember, Thomas, 1686."
The First Church of Christ of New London has these records: "May 15, 1692, Thos. Pember and his Wife owned ye Cov't. shee was baptized Agnes and yr children Mercy, Thomas, Elizabeth.", April 2, 1694, Ann (on a baptismal list), "April 12, 1696, Mr. Pembers child John was bapt".
From the Probate Records of New London, A. 585: "Administrator's bond of Agnes Pember with Thomas Way and George Way as sureties (her brothers), was signed for 200L at New London, Conn., Nov. 13, 1711, on Estate of Thomas Pember."
The existence of a will, although his death was sudden, indicates either age or ill-health. The will is now in Conn. State Archive, in an excellent state of preservation and easily readable.
The following  items are from the Diary of Joshua Hempstead (New London Co. Hist, Soc. Coll., Vol 1):
1711 "Sept 29 Sat. this afternoon Tho. Pemper was found Dead who was Drowned Last Saturday night."
1711  "Sund 30far. I went out to Pembers to serve on ye jury and to his funeral. Between meetings both he and Mary Chappell was buried no miner mr adams is sick. Mr Christophers Read."
1711 "I went to help Lay out Thos. Way, Junr Died at Grifings sick by 6 days I made his Coffin and found bods and nils." (Agnes' nephew, see Way fam.)
1711 "Sund. Thos Way buried between meetings."
1711 "May Saturd 10 fair. Goodwife Pember to look after Rob't hand. A bad swelling in itt."

Agnes Harris WAY-7680 was born in 1660 in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island. She died in Feb 1732. Agnes married Thomas PEMBER-7679 in 1687.

Concerning Agnes, the g in her name was not commonly pronounced; tradition calls her Inez, and descendants named for her long afterward wrote it Inez. Agnes studied medicine under her grandmother, Joanna Smith, became her assistant, and took over the practice when the grandmother became enfeebled. Calkins' Hist. New London, p 355, mentions Agnes Pember,"who was for many years famous as a nurse and doctress….Tradition related many vivid anecdotes respecting this energetic and experienced race of female practitioners…and unbounded confidence was placed in her skill to stroke for the king's evil, to cure cancers, alleviate asthma, and set bones."

They had the following children.

  M i John PEMBER-7677 was born on 12 Apr 1696. He died on 26 Jan 1782.

Andrew Pingree  was born in Rowley,Mass., Feb. 17, 1775. Died March 25, 1846. In early manhood he followed the boot and shoe manufacturing business in some town not far from the place of his birth and was foreman of quite a large amount of business. He was leader of a choir in an orthodox church where he lived, delighting very much in not only vocal but instrumental music. He was not a bigot in his religious views, but in early life was inclined to think there must be a hell for the desperately wicked. Was not a very regular attendant at church, but spent his Sundays at home, reading his Bible and singing, resting from all the usual labors of the week. One year, within my recollection, (perhaps rather as a joke, as he seldom attended church.) he was elected Tithingman, and  attended at the post of duty every Sunday during the year. Never before were the unruly boys so strictly subjected to the rule of New England "blue laws." Once, only, in the course of his official term and duty did a smile break the dignity of  his conuntenance. An unruly boy, full of fun and the devil, seating himself in church beside his dignity, pulled a large knife and a plug of tobacco from his pocket and politely offered them to the peace officer of the day, who never used the poison. The act was done so deliberately and with such apparent kindness, that the courtesy was acknowledged with an "unwilling smile!"
He married Abiah Straw of Weare, N.H.., about the year 1802, lived in Weare, Springfield, Grantham, and Meriden in Plainfield, N. H.. Removed to Kane Co., Illinois, in October, 1838, with his family. The place is now called Pingree Grove. Farming was mainly his business here. He was industrious, economical, temperate and strictly honest. Was a democrat all his life and died a Universalist, the 25th of March, 1846; was buried at Udina, near his home, aged 79.

Abiah D. STRAW [scrapbook]-7684 was born on 8 Aug 1786 in Weare, Hillsborough, New Hampshire. She died on 28 Sep 1846 in Pingree Grove, Kane, Illinois. She was buried in Udina Cemetery, Udina, Kane, Illinois. Abiah married Andrew PENGRY-7683 on 9 Sep 1802 in Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts.

Abiah Straw, who became his wife, was born in the town of Weare, N. H., Aug. 8, 1786. Her father's Christian name was Israel and her mother's maiden name was Abiah Nelson. Some of the relatives live in that vicinity now, of whom I know little. She was a Universalist and one of the best of women. Died Sept. 28, 1846, aged 58 years and was buried at Udina. She was the mother of ten children.
