Joseph Travis, son of James (III_ and Mercy or Mary Leland, was born in Framingham, Dec. 3rd, 1700; married Feb. 28, 1726-7, Mehitable Hager of Watertown, born May 7, 1704; died in Sherborn Dec. 22, 1737, daughter of William and Sarah (Benjamin) Hagar of Watertown. At his marriage Joseph was described as of Sherborn. Mehitable was admitted to full communion in the First Church, Sherborn (Unitarian), June 6, 1736. Joseph married (2nd), by Israel Loring, Mar. 29, 1740, Sarah Dean of Sudbury, She was a daughter of Joseph and Rebecca (Allen) Dean of Sudbury, as appears by Middlesex Probate, Jan. 5, 1722, where, in the will of Joseph Dean, are mentioned sons Pelatiah and Daniel, and daughters Mary and "Sary." Each daughter receiving thirty pounds. Mary Dean of Subury, by her will Jan. 9, 176; gave "To my beloved sister Sarah Travis two pounds, and to the Town of Sudbury all my real and personal estate on the east side of the river. At the hearing April 5, 1768, Daniel Travis, son of deceased's only sister Sarah, objected to the probate of the will. It was passed and approved April 28, 1768. Sept. 2, 1768, Joseph Travis of Natick, and wife Sarah (Dean), appealed to the Governor and Council to break the will. Witnesses, Daniel Travis, Amos Morse, Samuel Morse, Samuel Morse, Jr., and John Cooledge. Inventory, May 21, 1768, L132: 13: 6. The record shows that in 1751 he joins in sale of land in Sudbury and Weston, and is then described as of Natick. The land belonged to the estate of his wife's father, Joseph Dean, and her brother Pelatiah Dean and sister Mary, spinster, join in the deed. Consideration, L302. It is also recorded, under date of Oct. 5, 1772 (Lib. 73, p. 35), that he deeds his homestead to his son Daniel, reserving life-lease, and both were then described as of Natick. The old archives of the Supreme Court show that judgment was obtained against him for L12, Feb. 4, 1767, by Benjamin Pemberton of Roxbury, and he was then of Natick. It appears by the town records of Natick that he was constable there in 1762, 1771, 1772, 1777 and 1780. He was corporal of David Morse's muster roll, Buckminster's Reg't, in 1755, and his son Asa was a private in the same company. Vol. XCV, p. 323, Mass. Archives, April 19, 1757, shows among the soldiers of Natick, Capt. John Cooledge's company, both Joseph and his son Asa as privates. He was also in the Quartermaster's department at Fishkill, Oct. 14; grade, "Plane maker."

Ephraim Twitchell (Benjamin 1, Joseph 2), son of Joseph Twitchell and Lydia (Johnson) Twitchell, was born in Sherborn, Mass., Oct. 24, 1695. He married Sarah Millen, who died Aug. 28, 1725. He married, 2nd, Hannah Sanger, born in Sherborn, Feb. 7, 1697. His second marriage occurred Feb. 9, 1726. She was the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Sanger; he, having passed the customary year of probation, "was approved as a good and wholesome inhabitant and presented by a vote of the proprietors of Sherborn, July 1, 1689, with 20 acres of land and town rights in future with themselves." To him was committed the sacred charge of taking care of the meeting-house, to which his was much the nearest dwelling. The mother Hannah Sanger was Elizabeth Morse, daughter of Daniel Morse, and granddaughter of Samuel Morse of Medfield, Mass. On March 19, 1719, Ephraim Twitchell, for forty-five pounds, purchased of Daniel Morse seventy-five acres, drawn in the right of his father, Daniel Morse, Sr., bounded on the west by Hoppin's Farm; north by a highway (Milford Road); east by Medfield (former) line; south by Lodowick Dowse, which with additions, his son, Timothy Twitchell, in Feb., 1796, sold to Major Jacob Miller and Obed Miller for the sum of three thousand dollars. Ephraim Twitchell and family lived at Holliston, of which place he was a Selectman in 1741. Along with John Death and Jacob Foster, he served on the Committee which built the school house in what was known as the "Central District" of Holliston. This building was erected in the street east of the cemetery, the deed to the town of three acres adjacent not allowing even a school house to be put upon it. This building was used for school purposes until 1805.

SETH WARNER, son of Moses and Sarah (Porter) Warner, born October 28, 1739, in Hatfield, Mass., or possibly in Belchertown: died in Belchertown, 1822, aged 83. He was a resident of Belchertown, in the 'Middle of the Town District," and in his early life took a prominent part in public life, so that his name occurs frequently on the town records. His father died when he was but twenty and his uncle James Porter of Hatfield became his guardian. On March 3, 1762, the town voted that Josiah Lyman and Seth Warner be "Dear reves." From 1763 to 1766 he was buying his home farm, a part of which he received from his father's estate, and he also purchased his sister's share of that estate. March 2, 1763, he was one of the four appointed surveyor of highways, but for some reason he was not sworn. December 20, 1764, the town "voted Seth Warner to be constable to serve in the Room of Stephen Crowfoot that is moved away, to serve with Phinehas Hannum." March 17, 1766, the town chose Caleb Clark for constable in the year and Caleb Clark hired Seth Warner to serve in his stead, the town accepting him by a vote. December 8, 1766, it was voted that one-half the town shall get the wood for the pastor, Rev. Mr. Forward, this year, and the other half the next. Seth Warner's side is to get it this year. In a list of January 26, 1784, he is listed in the 'Middle of the Town District," and a few years later his name is found in a list of some forty or more, "concerned in the late rebellion ... lived in Belchertown and took and subscribed to the oath of allegiance." This is in reference to Shay's Rebellion. He is listed in the 1790 Census with two males over 16 and two females in the family, and in that of 1800 with one male and one female over 40. He purchased a piece of property in Belchertown in 1795. The appraisal of estate noted about a hundred acres of land, a grist mill on Batchelor Brook with its privileges, and two pews in the Congregational meeting house, one in the gallery. It is interesting to note that the pew in the Church and the grist mill had the same value, $103.00, and both were considered real estate. His personal property included the following items; 1 horse $.50 (fifty cents); 1 cow $14; 5 sheep, $6.67; 85 gal. Cider brandy, $28.05; 7 bbls. Old liquor only, $5.25; 1 bed, $2.00. His son having died, the estate was divided among his grandchildren. Seth Warner married MARY CLARK of Northampton, daughter of Samuel Clark, born about 1740, died in Belchertown in 1819, aged 79. Both Seth and Mary Warner joined the Belchertown Congregational Church in 1779.
