He was buried in Presbyterian Church Burial Grounds, Westfield, Essex, New Jersey. Joseph married Hannah WARD-11588 in 1703 in Southampton, Essex, New Jersey.

BIOGRAPHY: Francis E. Woodruff, p.49
Joseph and Hannah, believed newly married, migrated to Essex County, New Jersey and settled 100 acres of land, lot no. 148, which lay 'a cros Raway river at a great bend a mile below stream from Crane's ford' (Now Cranford), and 3 miles SE of town of Westfield.
They lived on the border of civilization...in 1665 land sold, 10 acres for a penny...wolves and indians in abundance...took muskets to church. Married life was one long anxiety, their land was questioned in 1718 and the case was written up in court records. Joseph and Hannah were the parents of thirteen children. 15 Jan. 1742, Joseph Woodruff, Jr. (due to an older cousin of the same name) of Borough Elizabeth, made his will and died 2 Feb. of the same year. He named his wife, Hannah, executor, along with his son, Thomas Woodruff, and friend, William Miller. To his widow he left "the best room in my dwelling house, one third of improvements of all my land, and one third of all movable estate. To heirs who already received their portions, John, Jonathan, William, Samuel, and Abigail gold (believed the oldest child) five shillings each. Between Thomas and Hezekiah, the plantation on which he lived, adjoining west side of Rahaway River and two other pieces of Trimby Neck. To Nathaniel, the house and land bought of Joseph Bird. To Isaac, a piece on salt meadow. To Benjamin, a negro boy and 40 lbs. To daughters, Sarah and Joanna, 16 lbs. each."
Indeed he provided well for his family. These Woodruffs are known as the "Westfield Woodruff's of New Jersey".
