HIDEAWAY - Graveside services for Albert "Junior" Knight, 87, Hideaway, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Sylvan Cemetery with Bro. Herschel Sanders officiating. Arrangements are with Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Directors, Lindale. Mr. Knight died Dec. 2, 2008, in a Lindale nursing home. He was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Fort Worth to the late Albert Lincoln Sr. and Leota Maulsby Knight. He graduated from The University of Texas and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He lived in Fort Worth where he owned Knight's Gun Shop prior to moving to Hideaway 32 years ago. He was a member of Hideaway Lake Community Church, Hideaway Lake Dance Club, Men's Golf Association, Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge and he was a Shriner. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Atwood Knight, Hideaway; son, Bob Atwood. Hideaway; daughter, Barbara Clasen, Hideaway; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until noon Friday at the funeral home. If desired, memorials may be made to Hideaway Lake Community Church, 1500 Lake Park Circle, Hideaway, 75771.

She was also a member of the Hideaway Ladies 9 hole and 18 hole golf association. Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by husbands, Robert Smith Atwood and Albert "Junior" Smith; her brother, William Henry Cabler Jr.; and a sister, Martha Ann Switzer. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Carolyn Atwood of Hideaway; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ken Clasen of Hideaway; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Edith E. Gum, 92, of Derby, Kansas, former Alva resident, died Tuesday, February 15.  She was born Feb. 13, 1902, in Woods County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Solomon and Melvina Fraizer Knight.  She married Erta J. Gum in November of 1920.  Mr. Gum preceded her in death in 1947.  She had been a resident of Derby since 1983 and lived in Yates Center from 1953 to 1983.  Funeral services will be today, February 18, at 11 a.m. at the Hatfield Cemetery in Alva.  Survivors include sons Wesley and Clifford, both of Derby; daughters, Marguerite Budensiek of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Fern Roberts of Yates Center, Kansas; Nellie Roth of Springdale, Arkansas; and Dollie Gillispie of Montrose, Colorado; one brother, John Knight of Riggins, Idaho; two sisters, Mary Jeffries of Seattle, Washington, and Lorene Aldrich of Oahu, Hawaii; 26 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.  A memorial has been established in her memory with the Yates Center, Kansas, United Methodist Church, Smith Mortuary, Derby, Kansas, is in charge of arrangements. - Ancestry.com

LORENE ALDRICH Lorene Knight Aldrich, 88, of North Las Vegas, passed away Nov. 4, 2007. She was born May 16, 1919, in Alva, Okla., and had resided in Nevada for 13 years. Lorene began her life in a small mid-western town, but spent her prime years in Oahu, Hawaii, with her beloved husband, Charles, and their two daughters. Together, they shared a passion for music, the arts, philosophy, their family and each other. Lorene was a homemaker and Realtor for many years, as well as, an accomplished artist who was active in the Windward Artists Guild. She taught art theory and received numerous art awards. She dearly loved poetry and reading a wide variety of books and magazines, and enjoyed learning and keeping her mind active. She felt blessed in sharing all of this with the love of her life, Charles, who she also corroborated with on the crafting and decorating of many musical instruments. She loved the beauty in life and was successful in capturing that beauty in her art and writings. She moved in 1994, with her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Nik Strauser, to Las Vegas, where she continued her art, culminating in the prestigious Grumbacher Award in 1995. She was a unique individual who had a profound influence on those who knew and loved her. She was a most loving and giving mother, wife, and grandmother, and will be terribly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 31 years, Charles; and her brothers and sisters, Albert, Joseph, Irlene, Edith, Mary and John. She is survived by her son, Nelson Logan of Gainsville, Fla.; daughters, Kaye Dolphin of Eagle River, Alaska, and Connie Strauser of Las Vegas; stepchildren, Christine Thompson of Sun City, Ariz., Carl Aldrich and Johanna Aldrich of Ft. Worth, Texas; her grandchildren, Brandy Sobanski, Sky Strauser, Jennifer Dolphin, Alex Logan and Christopher Logan; and her great-grandchildren. A memorial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Affordable Cremation & Burial Service, 2457 N. BIOGRAPHY: Fred Adam 91 yrs young Fred Adam of 403 North Lincoln Way, Galt, observed his 91st birthday quietly in his home on Friday, April 9 with relatives & friends dropping in to offer congratulations. Mr. Adam came to the US from his native Roumania at the age of 19. He took up a homestead near Annamoos, ND & married his wife Amelia 2 yrs later in 1900. After 5 yrs, they sold the homestead & moved to Turtle Lake where they operated a hotel for the next 4 yrs. The family then went to British Columbia, Canada, where he worked as a farm laborer & on highway maintenance. They remained there for 5 yrs, & then moved to Alberta, Canada where they purchased a farm. In 1946 the family came to Lodi, then 2 yrs later bought a ranch near Galt in 1948. When he retired in 1960, they sold their property & settled at their present address on North Llncoin in Galt. The couple had celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary at the time of the death of Mrs. Adam in 1962. Mr. & Mrs. Adam had 8 children; sons, Albert & Andrew of Galt; Gus of Bristow, NE; daughters Mrs. Ann Radford, Mrs. Rose Ullrich of Galt; Mrs. Marie Steweft, Mrs. Olga Matthews, Mrs. Leon Bleleall of Lodi; 19 grandchildren, & over 50 great-granddchildren. All of the sons & daughters with the exception of Gus, who was killed in an accident, are living. Mr. Adam has been in excellent health, wears glasses only for reading, has a clear & alert mind, enjoys company & his favorite TV programs, goes on walks about the premises of his home. His daughters, sons-in-law, sons & daughters-in-laws & Trixie, a 7 yr old terrier type dog, who is his constant companion; take very good care of him & all his needs, he finds no time to be bored or lonely during the golden years of a long & happy life.

BIOGRAPHY: JABEZ GREENE "of Potowomut" (James2, John1,) was born at Portsmouth, R. I. November 17, 1673. He inherited and resided at the Potowomut homestead. He was admitted freeman of Warwick, May 5, 1696. he was a Quaker and a meeting of the Society of Friends is recorded as held at his house, December 3, I699. He inherited also the Forge at Potowomut, where his six sons and his grandchildren carried on the successful bussnes.

Jabez inherited and resided at the Potowomut homestead. He was admitted freeman of Warwick May 5, 1696. He was a Quaker and a meeting of the Society of Friends is recorded as held at his house December 3, 1699. He inherited the Forge at Potowomut, where his six sons and his grandchildren carried on the successful industry of manufacturing anchors and other iron work as late as 1820. Jabez was grandfather of the distinguished Major-General Nathanael Greene.
