ISAAC PH1LLIPS probably was born in 1826. He is mentioned in no family records not even niece Elizabeth Esther Arbuckle's Bible and brother John's descendants had never heard of him. But he is identified in Tom's probate documents. He lived in Jennings County, Indiana, with his mother and, judging by the 1840 census, his step-father John Stagg. In 1850 he lived with his widowed mother. Then, in 1860 he was listed in the Jennings County census with a young woman named Patience who apparently was his wife. The censuses agree when he was born, but one census lists North Carolina as his place of birth and the other lists Indiana. His parents probably migrated from North Carolina to Indiana in 1826, so perhaps that accounts for the confusion. Jennings County's marriage records don't mention Isaac or Patience. And apparently no Indiana soldier of his name died while serving in the Union army. He probably died or left the area before 1870, although there is a chance that his name is one of the illegible names on Jennings County's sloppy 1870 census. It seems noteworthy that his niece didn't note in her Bible that he had died. Judging from his vague footprints in Jennings, it seems possible that he might have taken an out-of-county bride then, gravitated toward her family.

He is my Great-great-great grandfather.
I also have that he was married to a woman named Patience, but she did not live very long.
He re-married later to a woman named Barbara Jane Farley in Megs, Ohio when he was about 41. Barbara was about 21.
She is the daughter of John Farley and Mary Martin Farley: both apparently from Ohio.
Isaac and Barbara had several children together:
James (1870-1942)
Cora Nebraska (1874-1967)
Rhoda (1876-?)
Genevra or Jenervra (1878/9-?)
John Oliver (1882-?)
Gertrude (1884-1972)
Thomas {my great-great grandfather} (1888-?)
Mattie (1891-?)

These names can be found in the 1900, 1920, and 1930 Censuses for Ohio.

Their son Thomas then married a woman named Annetta Hicks.
They had Elizabeth, Thomas, and Jane.

I just thought you might like this information.
Also, I haven't heard any stories about him actually fighting in the Civil War. It seems he moved to Ohio somewhere before marrying Barbara.
