Pedigree

Last Edited 3 Dec 2001

Birth circa 1716  Richard Nall was born circa 1716 at Essex Co VA.2
He was the son of Martin Nalle and Mary Jane Aldin
Marriage   Richard Nall married Elizabeth ?
Death 1796  Richard Nall died in 1796 at Wake Co NC.3
Note   Per Larry Chesebro:

Although not referred to individually in his father's will ("my 8 children") Richard was named in his mother's nuncupative will dated Mar 22, 1734 as follows:

"and she give to her son Richd Nall 2 pewter basons three dishes and five plates"
Richard was appointed guardian to bro John after his mother's death.

Apparently moved from Essex co to Orange Co (now Culpepper) 1734-1741, same time as brother Martin. 1st record of land purch in Orange was 8/5/1741

Following land sales in 1761-2 in Orange Co, Richard moved to Johnston Co NC where on 1763 he purchased land from his brother Nathan. Brother Martin preceded him there

Two of Richard's sons, Martin and Nathan are listed in the 1790 Hillsborough Dist Wake Co census.

Will written Feb 1794 probated Dec 1796. "nine grandchildren orphans of John Nalle Dec'd" also named wife Eliz, son Martin and daughters Polly Jogan and Winnefred Youngblood. However, since his brothers all named all their children in their wills, "it seems reasonable to conclude that the remaining Nall individuals of the third generation age and of NC location must have belonged to Richard.

This is not my line of the STITT family, but it is info I have collected from
the internet. It is offered as a reference, as I have not researched this info,
just compiled it. I hope it is of some assistance

Karen, thanks for your nice comments. Wish I could help more on the
Stitt family, but I have made no attempt at research on them. The Stitt
family Bible, published 1736 in Ireland did descend to Wells's son
Capt. James Blevins who married Sarah Stitt. I had the pleasure of
seeing that Bible over 20 years ago when it was owned by a descendant
Ted Blevins (deceased now for many years). That was when I first
realized that Rev. War soldier Nathan Blevins had to be related since
his death was recorded in that Bible. The Bible had been through a
flood and most written data was not readable.

Karen,
The following is from page 217 of "HISTORY OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY,
TOGETHER WITH HISTORIC NOTES ON THE WABASH VALLEY" by H. W. Beckwith - 1881.

UNION TOWNSHIP. 217

William R. Stitt, farmer and stock raiser, Crawfordsville, was born April 8,
1835, in the place where he now lives. He had a common school education and
has always been a farmer. He has 120 acres of land one and a half miles from
the city. He is a Ma-son, Odd-Fellow, Good Templar, republican, a member of
the De-tective Association, and of the Methodist church. Mr. Stitt and his
sisters, Sarah R. and Rebecca J., live together on the "old home-stead." His
father, Judge James Stitt, was the oldest son of Robert and Jane Stitt. He
was born in Grayson county, Virginia. He came west at a very early day, and
had gone on through the south. He bought land in Washington county, then
went to Vir-ginia, and afterward came back to Indiana. He entered 160 acres
in this county, where his son now lives. It had upon it a good mill-seat,
and he soon built a mill which he ran till the Black Hawk war. He was
associate judge of Montgomery county for twenty-one years, and was elected
for seven years more, when he died in 1844. He was an able judge, a member
of the Methodist church, a strong temperance man, and an honored citizen..
He had a good education for his day, and was a man of extensive information.
He was married in 1818 to Miss Mary F. Richardson. She was a member of the
Methodist church and died in 1871. They had seven children. The Stitts came
from Ireland to this country at an early day, and. the grandfather of Judge
Stitt was in the revolutionary war, and was put in prison, where he suffered
much and was liberated by his uncle, an officer in the British army.

More later.

  1. Ralph Terry quotes 2 sources for wife Sarah Elliott
Greers that got to Georgia by Julian Greer and Royal Heritage of the Greers by Carolyn Beal. Beal shows Sarah Elliott first wife and Nancy Anne Greer as second wife. Beal shows Sarah died 1764, so she's the mother of the kids. Supposedly there is a marriage record of John Greer to Sarah Ann Elliott in the records of St. John's Parish, which is in Baltimore Co, MD.

But Terry describes a deed in Bedford Co, VA in 1765 where "John Greer and Anne his wife" sold land to "Aquiller Greer son of the said John and Anne Greer." This implies that whatever wife was the wife of the kids was stil alive in 1765, and went by the name Anne.

When he died, John's wife was named "Nanney" as he called her in his will, but Nancy is a nickname for Ann, and she was listed as Ann in some of the WIlkes Co Tax Lists after his death. Most researchers think that she was a second wife, but my personal theory is that Ann is Sarah Ann, whom he married in the first place.

To do next: try to get a copy of St. John's parish records.
