Immigration |
1639 |
There was evidence of Richard Mansfield in Quinnipiack, New England (the early name for the settlement that became new Haven) in a 1639 deed of land from James Marshall. of Exeter, England..3 |
Fact 1 |
1 July 1644 |
On 1 July 1644, Richard Mansfield took the oath of fidelity at the general court at New Haven, administered by Governor Theophilus Eaton. I wonder if this means he was not personally present when the 1639 deed was executed. From what I've read, I would think a new immigrant would have taken the oath of fidelity when he was made a freeman of the colony, which I thought happened sooner after arrival. Needs more research..4 |
