Note   Since there are no birth dates known for Hannah, Thomas and Richard, they could be the children of either of John Bouton's two wives. But John in his will mentions the "children" of his second wife, so there were at least two. All the children but these three were either born before the marriage to the second wife or married before the second wife's children could have been grown. Hannah was married by 1706, when her father's will was written. That makes her most likely the daughter of the first wife, unless she got married by age 16, which is possible. The most likely children of Mary are therefore Thomas and Richard.

Note   Alice's maiden name has been said to be Kellogg, because of the notation in The Memorial History of Hartford County that Matthew Marvin married "Mrs. Alice Kellogg." William T. Marvin, in a 1897 article in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, states that his father, Theophilus R. Marvin, also referred to her as Alice Kellogg in an earlier article on the Marvin family (NEHG Register Vol XVI p 250). The source for her name in that article was another researcher, who inferred the relationship from the naming in her will of "my daughter Briggit Kellock." Because at that time it was not known that Alice was first married to John Bouton, it was assumed that if Bridget Kellogg were called her daughter, it must mean she'd been married to a Kellogg, and Bridget her daughter-in-law. She has still been referred to by the name Kellogg in other articles, but since no one has quoted any other source for that name, I assume William Marvin is correct about the origin of the Kellogg story, and that her true maiden name unknown.2
