"Nathan's parents moved to the New River Valley in Montgomery Co Va (Grayson) near the NC line when Nathan was a small boy, probably 1762 to 1768. He enlisted in the Mont. Co Va militia in 1776. He served as a scout on the New and CLinch Rivers and did 6 months duty at Fort Whittam on the Clinch R in Va in 1776, commanded by Capt Hayes. He later was assigned to Capt Enoch Osborne's company of militia and also served with Capt John Cox's company during the revolutionary war. When the war ended he moved to the Clinch River where he lived for 5 years. He then moved to Green Co KY about 1788, living there for 15 years. In 1803 he moved back to Ashe and spent the rest of his life. Nathan was buried in Baptist Chapel Cemetery on Big Helton Creek. The land for the old part of the cemetery was donated by his son Wells, who was buried there 6 years later."
[Nathan wasn't really Wells' father, because census ages show him to be older. Probably brothers]
This NAthan was a Rev War pensioner. Ron Blevins believes him to be bro of Wells because his death in 1834 was recorded in the family Bible of Capt James Blevins, Wells' son. Also he is buried at Baptist Chapel Church Cem at Helton along with Wells, Capt James and other members of Capt James family.2,1 |
