Residence   According to the Greer Genealogy Website, Benjamin Greer was born in Albemarle Co, VA, grew up in Franklin Co, VA, moved to Wilkes Co, NC about 1770 and recorded land there on Cub Creek in 1778 (although he could have lived on it earlier). In 1781 and 1789 he entered claims to tracts on the South Fork of the New River, moving there at some point before the 1790 census. His land is said to have been where Gap Creek enters the South Fork of the New. In 1803 he sold the last of his land. It was probably at this time that he moved to Green County, KY, where he lived until his death in 1816.1

Will 21 February 1816  Benjamin Greer left a will on 21 February 1816. In the name of God, Amen. I, Benjamin Greer, of the County of Green, State of Kentucky, being through the goodness and mercies of God though weak in body, yet of a sound mind and perfect understanding and memory, do constitute this my last will and testament and desire it may be recorded as such. I most humbly bequeath my soul to God who gave it, beseeching ... (page was torn and taped at this point and part missing) ... and my body buried like seed in the ground, not to be lost, but here buried to remain till the morning of the Resurrection through Jesus Christ our Lord. As to my burial, I do desire to be interred, at the discretion of my Executors, thereafter named, who, I doubt not will arrange it with prudence. As to my worldly estate, I will, and positively order that all my debts be paid. First, I do bequeath to my two youngest sons namely Aquilla and Edmond Greer, the two tracts of land I now live on to be equally divided between them: and the rest of my estate to be equally divided between my three daughters: namely Sally, Elizabeth and Polly Greer; but my wife, Sarah Greer, to hold the same in her hands during live; but the said children to have their equal part as they become of age or marry. At the discretion of my Executors to which I do appoint my wife Sarah Greer, Aquilla Greer and Robert Erwin, and do constitute the executors of this my last will and testament and trustees for my wife and children. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty first day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and sixteen. N. B. and I do will that all my other children namely, John, Rachel, William, Benjamin, Ann, Jesse, David, Samuel, Joshua and James have one dollar each out of my estate. Marriage 1736  John Greer married Sarah Ann Elliott in 1736 at St. John's Parrish, Joppa, Baltimore County, MD.1
Death 1782  John Greer died in 1782 at Wilkes County, NC.1
Note   Per Terry, moved to what is now Franklin Co VA (was then Lunenburg and then Bedford). On tax list 1750. Moved to Wilkes Co NC (then Surry) abt 1771-2

Appointed Justice of the Peace for first court after organization of Wilkes County, 1778

Will probated 1782, Wilkes County NC gives plantation (492 ac) to wife Nanney. Son Jessey to get above at decease of wife. dau Ann Mitchellto receive Negro girl Pheby. Dau Hannah Demoss - Negro girl Hannah. . Balance of estate divide equally among: Aquilla, John, Benjamin, Joshua, Jessey Greer, Rachel Mitchell, Sarah Hardgrave, Hannah Demoss. Excr wife Nancy, friend John Browne. Wit Archelus Walker, Nancy Walker and Sarah Greer.

On Wilkes County tax list of 1782 Ann Greer, presumably the widow, with 600 acres and 4 slaves, lives next door to Archilus Walker. So the witness was the next door neighbor. Some people have assumed that meant Nanney was a Walker, but I've seen no evidence

In the 1782 Wilkes Co tax list Ann Grier (Nanney), all 5 sons, Francis Hardgrave (h/o Sarah) and James "Michell" (h/o Rachel) all lived in Capt Abraham Demoss's district. Lewis Demoss, Hannah's husband, is in another district.

Joshua's wife was named Sarah. Maybe she was the other witness.1,3
