William Drummond
b. 14 November 1784
Christening |
14 November 1784 |
William Drummond was christened on 14 November 1784 at South Leith, County Midlothian, Scotland.1 |
|
|
He was the son of David Drummond and Margaret Erskin. |
Marriage |
17 October 1805 |
William Drummond married Ann Groves on 17 October 1805 at North Leith, Midlothian, Scotland.2,3 |
Note |
|
I do not have proof that David Drummond and Margaret Erskin are the parents of William who married Ann Groves. However, they lived in the parish and they did have a son named William who would have been 21 the year William and Ann were married. Also William and Ann named their first child David, which would normally mean that was the name of his father. There was not another child named William Drummond baptised in South Leith Parish who would have been the age to be the William who married Ann. Furthermore, a David Drummond witness the baptism of William's son David. |
Census |

William Drummond appeared on the census of 1841 at Parish of South Leith, Leith, County Edinburgh, Scotland, as follows: William Drummond 56 Tailor

The ages of adults in the 1841 census were rounded to the nearest five years in mny districts, but not here. Ann Groves
Marriage |
17 October 1805 |
Ann Groves married William Drummond, son of David Drummond and Margaret Erskin, on 17 October 1805 at North Leith, Midlothian, Scotland.1,2 |
Note |
|
Beverly's summary lists her surname as "Grover," but I believe that's somebody's mis-read for "Groves," since there is a William Drummond and Ann Groves marriage in the IGI and Groves is the middle name of Davd's daughter Mary Ann. |

circa 1796 |

She married Thomas Lawrence before 1820 at Westmoreland County, PA.1 |
Death |
7 December 1859 |
Hannah Swisshelm died on 7 December 1859.1 |
Note |
|
According to my Granddad Ralph Reynolds, grandson of Nannie Jane Waters Reynolds, Nannie's mother was a Hannah Swisshelm, of the Swisshelms for which the town of Swissvale, PA, was named. However, we know from obituaries that her mother was in fact Hannah Lawrence. But Hannah Lawrence's mother was also named Hannah, and we don't know her maiden name, so I'm assuming that Granddad was just a generation off. He mentioned the Hannah Swisshelm name more than once, while his memory was still fine, so that piece of handed-down information had to be based on some type of fact; it makes sense that he confused one Hannah with another. I've looked up the Swisshelms of Swissvale on the internet, and while there doesn't appear to be a complete list of the offspring in the generation that would have contained Hannah, there is no mention of a child named Hannah. Needs further research.2 |
