There is a tradition that Thomas Bevis left England, when a boy, without the consent of his parents. The earliest that is known of him is that he was collector of taxes in Burlington County and resided in Chesterfield, NJ. On Nov 18, 1737 he married Mary Draper, daughter of [there was a blank here] Draper and his wife [another blank], and had one son, Issachar, who married Ann [blank] and lived in Colerain Township [the word Dublin is written above "township"], Huntingdon County, PA. On June 24, 1741 Thomas married Elizabeth Brackney, daughter of Matthias Brackney and Frances Denman, by whom he had four children: George who married Mary Sooy and Sarah Carson; Margaret who unmarried [sic]; John who married Abigail Norcross; and Denman who married Bloomy [?]Sarish.2
