In a deed dated 1742 to lands in Canaan, he is described as William Warner of Wethersfield, but in 1743, in another deed, he is described as "of Canaan." In 1764, they removed from Canaan, CT to Canaan Centre, NY. At the breaking out of the Revolutionary War, we find William the father of 9 stalwart sons, each 6 feet or over, taking the popular side. He was Lieut in Capt Aaron Kellpgg's Co.".1

Note   The source for much of my Strong information is Families of Ancient Windsor. There are some inconsistencies I have found in it, so the data may not all be accurate. First, it gives the death date of both Return Strong who married Sarah Warham and his son Return, who married Margaret Newberry as April 9, 1726. If course it's possible that father and son both died on the same day, but it's unlikely. Second, it states that Elizabeth, daughter of Return Sr, married Nathaniel Boardman and then Thomas Burnham. But on page 128 in the same work, in his section on the Burnhams, the author states that Thomas Burnham married Elizabeth, widow of Nathaniel Boardman, who was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Warner Strong. Also, in Families of Ancient Wethersfield, written later by the same author, his Boardman section and his Warner section both say that Nathaniel Boardman's widow Elizabeth married William Warner and was the daughter of Return Strong.1,2
