I've tried a number of enhancement programs, however, the connection type usually just mess up the machine.  The ram recovery programs seem to work at first, but if you leave them running they start to soak up resources so the net effect is negative.  The most notable program that I have used (and can affect either positive or negative depending on your particular machine configuration) is Cacheman.  It allows you to try several different cache settings, many are pre-set so that you can try and then go back if it proves negative.

I haven't used this latest version (just downloaded it) but have used it on and off for the last couple of years when I think my machine is slowing down <G>

Most of these memory programs are foo foo dust.  Generally, keeping the deadwood out and doing the scandisk and defrag will do about as much as these things.  There is so much difference in the configuration of computers that most of these programs just rely on a standard setting and may in fact reduce the performance.
