Scanners and Helps

Scanners and helps

I hope someone can help me with this -- I know other people have the same problem because I get their HUGE attachments.  I have a Visioneer One Touch scanner.  It has preconfigured settings for the buttons, which should make it easy, but nothing seems to work.

As for the scanning.  Check to see if you have an adjustment that will allow changing the ratio between the original and the scanned image.  In mine, I can change from less than 10% of the original to 200 or 300% of the original.  With this, when scanning a larger item (8x10 for example), I can set the resolution at 300 or 400 dpi (depending on the final use), then set the sizing to 25% and scan.  This gives me a much smaller image with the dpi at a level that will still print well.  Personally, I save the original as a .tif file so that I can edit it and adjust things without degrading the original.  Once that is saved and I have done any adjustments, I can save a copy (using Save As) in a jpg file so that the file size is even smaller and very emailable ( hmmm is that a word ??  <G>).

Remember, in the Visioneer scanners, they will default to a file with the extension of .mix.  Very few programs, other than the Visioneer will read these. If you go to File, Save As, you will find some options to save in another format. Choose .jpg to send to others and .tif if you are going to do significant graphic editing.
