Anthony Lamping 1773? - 1829

Anthony Lamping

1773?-1829

Anthony Lamping:

Anthony Lamping lived in St. Lawrence county NY, ( I believe he appears on the New York census record  as early as  1800, but no earlier then 1800).  When applying for a land grant in Canada,  Anthony Lamping wrote that he came from the Heart of Pennsylvania ( Click here to see that record).  So Anthony said of himself that he came from Pa..  Anthony died on August 10, 1829, age 56 years (click here to see the record of his death) .  New, Census records so that the children of Anthony Lamping, stated their father was born in Pennsylvania, click here to view information.  Also here is a great page for some local New York history on Anthony Lamping, publish by John F. Sheedy, click here to view the page.

Anthony Lamping, Christopher Lambing's son?

Is Anthony Lamping a son of Christopher Lambing,?  The answer is not known, but here are the reasons for the question. (Please it should be noted that a descendant of Anthony Lamping wrote that he came from Holland, landed in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and then moved to New York state, where he started a family,  I can't disprove that).
Lambing Family Tradition.
Andrew Arnold Lambing, wrote in his book in 1896 the following (click here to view entire page of book)
"11. Nicholas (in register), born December 19, 1784, the youngest of the family.  He was a hatter, and moved to Albany in 1806, since which time nothing has been heard of him; but there are descendants of Christopher living in Canada, south of the St. Laurence, who would appear to of this branch of the family.  They spell their name Lampeng."
Nicholas appears as the Executor of Christopher estate record in 1812 and we also I have copy of the Estate record of Nicholas Lamping 1829, Nockamixion Twp Bucks county, so it appears Nicholas stayed in Bucks county (also should be noted that Nicholas appear to be listed with Pa., as well as Jacob Lambing, as serving in the War of 1812).  However it is of great interest that our family claim as early as 1896 that one of Christopher sons went to NY and Canada.  And that Anthony Lamping Stated he came from Pa...
Bucks County Pa., Records.
Goshenhoppen Register: Duf, Catherine, of Cornelius Duf and his wife Maria Fernan, born April 1,
1773, baptized April 17, 1785, at Nicholas Carty's house ; sponsors,Catherine Carty and Anthony Langbein.
The Will of Henry Pile, of Nockamixion Twp., Bucks County Pa., dated January 21, 1795, witness by Anthony Lamping..  (Please note this could also be Christopher Lambing's son, John Anthony Lambing, who later settle in Westmoreland County Pa.).
Joseph Anthony Lamping? (please note I have never seen a record of Anthony Lamping , with his name as Joseph Anthony Lamping, always as Anthony Lamping).
Our family tradition has: A.A. Lambing's book he wrote (click here to see full page) "3. Joseph, son of Christopher, of whom nothing is known with certainty; but it is thought that he cross over into New Jersey, where it is known that persons of the name lived in last and early  part of the present century, and where some of them may perhaps still be found." (Please note we have so far found no record of Joseph Lambing living in New Jersey, we have found George Lambing in New Jersey, please click to view those records)
Goshenhoppen Register: Rosner, Magdalen Eva, of John Rosner and his wife Catherine Ziegenfuss, born April 8, 1782, baptized April 21, at Haycock ; sponsors, Joseph Langbein and Eva Lorenz.
Records still need to be found.
The problem I have in making a conclusive connection with Anthony Lamping is I don't have some records.  One such record (which I don't believe exist) is a record of the heirs to Christopher Lamping, after his death, another record (which I know exist, because I seen it 20 years ago) is a record of the settlement of Christopher land.  Also the records of Anthony Lamping marriage, in particular the witnesses to his marriage and sponsors of his children's baptism, which may give clues as to other families from Bucks county who could have travel with him.
