This indenture made at River John this first day of November in the year of our Lord, one thousand, eight hundred and fifty-five between Alexander McKenzie of River John aforesaid in the County of Pictou, Esquire, of the one part and Robert Langill of River John in the County aforesaid, yeoman, of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said Alexander McKenzie for and in consideration of the rents and covenants herein after expressed hath leased and to farm let unto the said Robert Langill, his heirs and assigns for the space of two years from the date hereof a certain lot or parcel of land situate, lying and being in the settlement of River John aforesaid.

Beginning on the southwestern side of the Sand Marsh Road at the north angle of Christopher Langill's farm lot running thence south forty-five degrees west fifty-two chains, more or less, to land belonging to George Joudrey, Sr., thence north forty-five degrees west along said Joudrey's land eighteen chains, more or less, to the south east boundary line of said George Joudrey's farm lot, thence north forty-five degrees east along said boundary line fifty-two chains to the south west side of said Marsh Road aforesaid and thence south easterly along said road eighteen chains, more or less, to the place of the beginning, containing nineteen acres, more or less with all and singular the buildings and improvements thereon reserving to him the said Alexander McKenzie, his heirs and assigns the yearly rents of seven pounds payable on the first day of each succeeding November or at the expiration of the above term.

To have and to hold the said lot of land and premises to him the Robert Langill, his heirs and assigns, during the full term of one year above-mentioned without molestation or disturbance from any person or persons lawfully claiming the same and the said Robert Langill for himself, his heirs and assigns doth by these presents covenant, promise and agree to and with the said Alexander McKenzie, his heirs and assigns in manner and form following. That is to say, that he, the said Robert Langill, his heirs and assigns shall and will well and truly paid or cause to be paid to the said Alexander McKenzie, his heirs and assigns the just in full sum of seven pounds currency above mentioned at the time above specified in that behalf and that he nor they shall not commit to waste upon the said lot of land or in anyway injure the buildings thereon but shall and will at the expiration of the term above mentioned peaceably and quietly surrender and deliver up the possession of the said lot of land and premises to him the said Alexander McKenzie, his executors, administrators or assigns in the same order in which it is now.

In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have their hands and seals subscribed and set the day and year first above written.
